The Marshall Area Stage Company presents the live radio drama “It’s A Wonderful Life” on December 12 and 13 at the Marshall-Lyon County Library. This show was adapted for radio by Anthony E. Palermo from Frank Capra’s 1946 film. It’s A Wonderful Life is based on the story “The Greatest Gift” by Philip Van Doren Stern. This performance will include live sound effects. Admission is a $5 donation benefiting MASC and the Marshall Lyon-County Library. A recording will play over KMHL Marshall Radio at a later date.

Teen Tabletop Gaming will be meeting virtually and in the community room! Attend whichever way is most convenient for you. In nice weather, we might also head outside to the courtyard. For those joining us online: we use Discord, a free voice and chat service that lets you create private servers. You can use it right in your browser without installing anything. You can also install it on a computer or use the app on a tablet or smartphone. You will need to sign up for an account with a valid email address before you can use it. The chat server will be moderated by a librarian. Parents, you can learn more about discord here. Please email Emilirose ([email protected]) or contact LibrarianEmilirose on Discord for a link to the server. We usually play the 5th edition (2014 rules) of Dungeons & Dragons, but we also play other TTRPGs like Daggerheart, Kids on Bikes, or Crash Pandas. We also spend a lot of time chatting, collaborating on video games, and getting our characters ready.  The online voice chat will be available at around 3:20 pm. We start playing when enough players have arrived, and we’ll be done by around 6 pm. It’s okay if you have to leave early. Adult players: this event is specifically for teens and preteens. Learn how to use the Library’s Mark S. Goodenow Preservation Lab to digitize old photos, slides, cassette recordings, home movies, and more. We’ll walk you through the process for each type of media available. Feel free to bring your own photos, slides, cassette tapes, VHS tapes, or 8mm film. Registration is required and space is limited. Contact the library to register: 507-537-7003, [email protected], or in person. Sessions are generally held at least once a month. The Preservation Lab is free to use and open to the public. To use the Lab, you must be 18 or older have a library card in good standing complete training with Library staff on the equipment you intend to use and have a Preservation Lab Agreement on file. Group training sessions are generally held at least once a month. Individual training is available as staff schedules allow. We’ll also have KEVA blocks, K’nex, and other building and mechanical sets available. Come and go as you please sets will be available most of the day. In the Children’s Library, LEGO® Brick Club will have special challenges available! Children in kindergarten through 5th grade (ages 6-11) are invited to participate. Each month has a different theme. Take the theme challenge, and we’ll show off your creations at the library! Holidays and other events may change this schedule. The Great Reads book club meets the third Saturday of each month at 11 am at the Marshall library with Zoom available for anyone who wants to attend virtually. For more information or access to the Zoom meeting, please visit the Great Reads Book Club page or contact the library. You will need to contact the library or a book club member for the password to access the Zoom meeting. There is no pressure… just a chance to share your opinions or listen in as others share theirs. Join fellow movie aficionados to watch one of two films at the Marshall Library! Movie Club, which is geared toward adults and teens, will show a feature in the community room. We’ll also have a kid’s film in the children’s library! September’s films are Pride & Prejudice (1940, 1 hr 58 min, “approved”) and A Minecraft Movie (2025, 101 minutes, PG). October’s films are The Phantom of the Opera (2004, 143 min, PG-13) and How to Train Your Dragon (2025, 125, PG). November’s films are Wicked, part 1 (2024, 2 hrs 4o min, PG) and The Wizard of Oz (1939, 101 min, G). December’s event will be held one week later than usual. Instead, you can stop by to watch a live radio performance of “It’s A Wonderful Life,” presented by the Marshall Area Stage Company.December’s films (December 20) will be The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992, 85 min, G) and The Polar Express (2004, 100 min, G). Free and open to anyone. After the movie in the community room, there will be a brief discussion to share your thoughts.
