You are invited to join a special Play and Learn program at the Lakeshore Museum Center on the second and fourth Thursdays. “Little Learners” is a free literacy-based program for Muskegon County infants and toddlers ages 0-4.  During this program, participants will be invited to join us for story time and free play with themed activities.  Registration is required, but there is no charge for this program.     All attendees must register, including caregivers & siblings. This program will run for 50-60 minutes, 15-20 for an organized storytime, and the rest for free play and a craft.  During this program, adults and children will have fun learning through songs, stories, sensory stations, motor skills stations, art, and more! Our themes for this year will be: March/April:  Sorting3/12, 3/26, 4/23 May/June:  Nature5/14, 5/28, 6/11, 6/25 We will have a free book for families to take home, as well as special crafts and activities to do. Tally Ho! An Adventure Awaits! Join Nature Cat and his friends for a wild day of discovery at the Muskegon Museum of History & Science as we celebrate the opening of our newest exhibit, Nature Cat: Backyard and Beyond, on Saturday, May 30, 2026! Kick off the adventure with a fun, open-house style celebration for explorers of all ages. Meet Nature Cat in person to snap a photo with your favorite backyard adventurer, and dive into hands-on activities inspired by the natural world. Young explorers can follow clues on a nature-themed scavenger hunt, get creative with recycled material art, and enjoy light refreshments—including a special tasting from Kitty Wampus Soda. Whether you’re a longtime fan or ready to discover the outdoors with Nature Cat for the first time, this exciting exhibit opening promises curiosity, creativity, and plenty of backyard fun. Join us at the Muskegon Heritage Museum of Business and Industry for National Knit in Public Day. Did you know that Muskegon County had at least 4 knitting mills that produced knit goods for our area? Come learn about the commercial knitting industry in our county as well as hobby knitting. Bring your current knitting (or crochet) project down to the museum and get free admission. We will have information available about the historic knitting mills. You can even take our vintage hand crank knitting machine for a spin. Spaces will be available for you to knit (or crochet) with friends old (and new). No reservations needed.
