It's the perfect time to capture your family's holiday photo! Drop by the Mt. Pleasant branch during open business hours for a self-serve photo opportunity with a gingerbread house-themed photo backdrop. *Patrons are expected to use their own phone, camera, or digital device for photos. A tripod will be available. All are welcome to use the photo backdrop, and it is not limited to family groups. Friends and individuals are also welcome to stop by!

Join us for a thoughtful, engaging discussion of this complex genre.  We focus our discussion on uplifting and empathizing with the victims of these crimes. We will be reading the book The Innocent Man by John Grisham.  You can borrow a copy here using your library card. Summary:John Grisham's first work of non-fiction, an exploration of small-town justice gone terribly awry, is his most extraordinary legal thriller yet. He presents the real-life case of Ron Williamson, a mentally ill former baseball player who was wrongfully convicted and sentenced to death for the 1982 murder of a 21-year-old woman in his Oklahoma hometown. Genres:True Crime, Nonfiction, Thriller, History, Law The last 15 minutes of this program will include a visit with Gnome, a calming canine companion. Register below to receive a reminder email. Join us for a LIVE virtual conversation that’s sure to warm your heart (and make your stomach rumble), as we delve into the legacy of cooking icon Julia Child with Smithsonian curator and public historian Paula J. Johnson, author of Julia Child’s Kitchen: The Design, Tools, Stories, and Legacy of an Iconic Space. The book includes interviews with chefs who knew Julia well, commentary on her favorite culinary tools and kitchen gadgets, and a stunning array of photos. Immediately following the author talk, culinary arts students from the Gratiot-Isabella Technical Education Center will provide a cooking demonstration and a tasty sample from one of Julia's Cookbooks.  Attendees will have the opportunity to win a copy of Paula's book, Julia Child’s Kitchen: The Design, Tools, Stories, and Legacy of an Iconic Space.   About the Author:Paula J. Johnson is a curator and public historian at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington, DC. She conducts research and collects objects related to the history and culture of American food, serving as the Director of the Smithsonian’s Food History Project. Johnson was one of the curators who collected Julia Child’s home kitchen in 2001 and led the team that created FOOD: Transforming the American Table, a multi-layered exhibition that explores the major changes in food production, distribution, and consumption in the United States since the 1950s. She has shaped and contributed to many public programs on food history and leads the annual “Food History Weekend.” Johnson is the author of many articles and three books, including Julia Child’s Kitchen: The Design, Tools, Stories, and Legacy of an Iconic Space (2024). She received the Smithsonian Distinguished Scholar in the Humanities Award in 2020.
