This event was rescheduled from Tuesday, December 2.  Bead Therapy is an expressive arts workshop that teaches participants the basics of beaded jewelry making and the difference between semi-precious stones and precious stones. The materials used are semi-precious stones and other natural jewelry materials. Semi-precious stones have been appreciated for generations for their unique beauty and healing and grounding properties. This program is for adults. Registration is required. Presented by Zangar Freeman of Zbeads. Zangar Freeman is a first-generation Liberian-American jewelry artist, educator, and veteran who integrates cultural storytelling and art therapy practices into his beadwork. With a background in social work and a deep appreciation for community connection, he has taught beadwork and expressive arts across the lifespan, working with youth clubs, community centers, senior centers, and schools. His workshops foster third spaces through library programming, creating environments where people can connect, reflect, and express themselves through art. Zangarâs journey with jewelry-making began over a decade ago and deepened through his study abroad experience in San Miguel de Allende, where he refined his skills in working with fine materials such as silver and gold. A former U.S. Marine specializing in aviation administration, he later transitioned into social work, serving as a case manager and transitional advocate for diverse populations. In the 19th century, the concept of Christmas as we know it was in the process of being invented. Barbara and Antonia Pugliese of the Commonwealth Vintage Dancers will discuss some hallmarks of the historical holiday season as we learn cheerful and festive dances. In particular, we will tackle one of the great fad dances of the 19th century - Pop Goes the Weasel! Dances will involve traveling in patterns at a brisk walk.  No partner or previous experience is required, but please wear comfortable shoes and be ready to meet and dance with new people. Join us for this class led by Antonia Pugliese of Commonwealth Vintage Dancers. Antonia will teach beginner-friendly dances, reconstructed from period sources. Tweens bring your parent, grandparent or adult of your choice to make a craft together.  Please note: When someone does not show up for a program they are registered for, they are taking away an opportunity for another member of the community. Patrons who are registered for an event they cannot attend are asked to cancel their registration at least 24 hours in advance. Failure to show up for programs two (2) times without notice will be grounds for being waitlisted for 30 days. Patrons who arrive 5 minutes or more after the program start time will be considered no-shows. Get to know our new therapy dog Kira! Young readers ages 5 and up (siblings and parents are welcome to join) are invited to spend 10 minutes reading aloud to Kira. Learn more about the benefits of reading to a dog here. Registration is not required. 10 minute timeslots with a dog will be assigned on a first come first served basis. Join us for a poetry reading from local poet Ann Taylor. Horn Pond: The Way I See It is a collection of poems influenced by one New England pond, just an easy walk from where I grew up and now live again, but also a place for me with bottomless depths, long memories, and wide recognitions far beyond this simple location. Horn Pond is not just a whale-shaped figure on the local map, nor simply a source of childhood memories. It is a universe unto itself. As one early poem in the collection asks: Horn Pond is prepared to teach. What might it have to say for itself and for a writer eager to listen? The aim for this collection has been both to listen and to share. Registration is requested, but not required. About Ann Taylor A long-time Professor of English at Salem State University in Massachusetts, Ann Taylor has written two books on college composition, academic and free-lance essays, and a collection of personal essays, Watching Birds: Reflections on the Wing. Her first poetry book, The River Within, won first prize in the 2011 Cathlamet Poetry competition at Ravenna Press. A chapbook, Bound Each to Each, was published in 2013. Her collection, HÊloïse and AbÊlard: the Exquisite Truth, published in 2018, is based on the twelfth-century story of their lives. Her collection of poetry, Sortings, was published in 2020 by Dos Madres Press, and her most recent collection, Looking After: Poems, was published in 2024, also by Dos Madres Press. Author Marc Millon discusses how his book, Italy in a Wineglass: The Story of Italy Through Its Wines, came about and highlights the intricate and intimate links between Italian history and Italian wine. He then looks at some of the major themes covered in the book: wines in antiquity; the triumph of Christianity; Risorgimento and Unification; back to the future, Italian wines today . . . and tomorrow. About the author Marc Millon has been travelling, eating, drinking, learning and writing about food, wine and travel for nearly 40 years. Marc was born in Mexico, with a mother from Hawaii via Korea and an anthropologist father from New York via Paris. Marc authored 14 books with his wife Kim, a photographer, and are regular contributors to publications on both sides of the Atlantic. They pioneered a series of illustrated wine-food-travel books including The Wine Roads of Europe, The Wine Roads of France, The Wine Roads of Italy, and The Wine Roads of Spain. Marc regularly lectures and hosts gastronomic cultural tours to Italy and France with Martin Randall Travel, the UKâs leading cultural travel specialist.
