Django Reinhardt: Gypsy Jazz Master Register below to attend in person. Register here to attend via Zoom. How did an illiterate, French-speaking, Romany guitarist become one of the most important musicians in the history of jazz? We will follow the improbable journey of Django Reinhardt from the humble bals musettes of Paris to the world spotlight, and explore his lasting influence on and beyond jazz. Andy Moore is a former Assistant Director of the Wayland Public Library. An ardent amateur jazz musician, he has been playing the music of Django Reinhardt since 2006, mostly with the Sinti Rhythm quartet. Andy has performed at the French Quarter Festival in New Orleans with the Ponchartrain Owls, and appeared locally for 20 years with the New New Orleans Jazz Band. He is proud to have sat in with such traditional jazz giants as Billy Novick, Butch Thompson, Jon-Erik Kellso, Evan Christopher, and Charlie DeVore. Welcome to the Noon Book Group! Join us on the second Friday of every month at noon for a lively book discussion and treats! We will be discussing Hamnet, by Maggie O'Farrell, on December 12 at 12PM. Hamnet is a portrait of a marriage, scarred by loss of a beloved child in Warwickshire in the 1580s. Agnes settles with her husband in Henley Street, Stratford, and has three children. The only boy, Hamnet, dies in 1596, aged eleven. Four years or so later, her husband writes a play called Hamnet. This is an in-person meeting. Author Marc Millon discusses how his book, Italy in a Wineglass: The Story of Italy Through Its Wines, came about and highlights the intricate and intimate links between Italian history and Italian wine. He then looks at some of the major themes covered in the book: wines in antiquity; the triumph of Christianity; Risorgimento and Unification; back to the future, Italian wines today . . . and tomorrow. Virtual. Register.  Hosted by the Cary Library in Lexington. Marc Millon has been travelling, eating, drinking, learning and writing about food, wine and travel for nearly 40 years. Marc was born in Mexico, with a mother from Hawaii via Korea and an anthropologist father from New York via Paris. Marc authored 14 books with his wife Kim, a photographer, and are regular contributors to publications on both sides of the Atlantic. They pioneered a series of illustrated wine-food-travel books including The Wine Roads of Europe, The Wine Roads of France, The Wine Roads of Italy, and The Wine Roads of Spain.
