Python is a general purpose programming language that emphasizes simplicity, legibility, and practicality. In this workshop, we will use Python to analyze and visualize data as a way to learn the basics of using a programming language. This lesson assumes no prior experience with the tools covered in the workshop.  Requirements:  Participants must bring a laptop. We highly recommend creating a gmail account to use solely for this workshop. (Using Google Colab requires granting access to Google Drive data, by creating an account for this workshop, you do not risk sharing any of your personal data by accident) Participants are expected to plan to attend all three sessions.  Adults and children ages 11+ welcome. About the Instructor Jean works as a Computational Scientist at the Broad Institute in Cambridge, MA. She also volunteers at the library's HATCH Makerspace where you might find her laser cutting her latest project or trying out a new hobby like leatherworking or 3D printing. Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise that focuses on strengthening core muscles while improving postural alignment and flexibility. It is suitable even for people who are new for Pilates in the mean time for athletic or dancers who need to rehabilitate their muscles or to improve their performance. The main principles of Pilates include: Concentration: Focusing on your body and movements. Centering: Engaging the core muscles to support movement. Flow: Creating smooth transitions between movements. Emphasizing correct alignment and form during exercises. Breath: Utilizing breath to enhance movement and facilitate relaxation. All what we need for mat Pilates is a mat.  It is suitable for people of all fitness levels and can be tailored to individual needs, making it popular for rehabilitation, athletic training, and general fitness. About the Instructor:  Jihan Al Kassab is an Iraqi lady who’s resident in Watertown, a certified Pilates instructor with over 20 years of experience in the fitness industry in many countries i.e. Iraq, Jordan and UAE. She specializes in mat Pilates and is passionate about helping individuals achieve their fitness goals through mindful movement and body awareness. She earned her Pilates certification from the renowned Balanced Body Institute and has since completed numerous advanced trainings in Pilates applications for rehabilitation, prenatal and postnatal fitness, and athletic performance. Her commitment to ongoing education ensures she stays current with the latest techniques and methodologies in the field. Her teaching philosophy centers on the belief that Pilates is for everyone, accommodate varying fitness levels, ensuring each participant receives personalized attention and modifications suited to their needs. The main principles of Pilates include: Concentration: Focusing on your body and movements. Centering: Engaging the core muscles to support movement. Join wildlife photographer Shawn Carey for a photographic journey through the Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas) for a close up look at several species of penguins and tips for planning your own travels! Co-sponsored by the Brookline Bird Club.  Wildlife Photographer Shawn Carey will share photographs he's taken of several penguin species from his travels to these islands, located off the southern coast of Argentina.  Shawn Carey (Migration Productions) produces bird and wildlife related multi-media presentations, videos and photo workshops that have been presented all over the United States. Shawn moved from his home in Pennsylvania to Massachusetts in 1986 and started watching birds in 1988. His avid interest in photography was joined with a newfound passion for birding and he began tocombine the two in 1991. By 1994, he and good friend Jim Grady started Migration Productions as a way to present their multiimage slide presentations to a live audience. Shawn’s photos have been published in the Boston Globe, New York Times, Mass Audubon Sanctuary magazine, Science magazine, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary magazine and many others over the last 20 years. In 1997, he started teaching bird photography workshops (Fundamentals of Bird Photography) for the Massachusetts Audubon and he is an instructor for Summer Fields Schools on Cape Cod for Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.  https://watertownlib.assabetinteractive.com/calendar/library-use-adult-program-20/

This is the required training to use the Hatch laser cutter. You will learn the basics of setting up a job, safety considerations, acceptable materials, and some troubleshooting. This is the first step in becoming an independent user of the machine. This workshop will not show you how to design a project; we offer other workshops to help with the design process. You must be 16 or older to be trained and use the laser cutter independently. Explore the world through song, as award-winning vocalist and educator Tamara Jokic discusses world music and performs songs in various languages — while bringing their historical and cultural contexts to life via images, video, and stories. Tamara Jokic is a singer and composer born in Serbia. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, she moved to New York, where she is currently living and creating. Singing in more than 10 languages, Jokic develops her own expression in the world music genre, nurturing the fusion of Mediterranean and Balkan music. Devoted to Mediterranean culture, music, and languages, she has composed and performed with world-class artists such as Javier Limón, Mariza, Panagiotis Andreou, Amira Medunjanin, and Zulfu Livaneli, as well as prominent gaming and multimedia platforms such as Netflix, Rogue Games, and Demagog Studio. Jokic has performed in numerous acclaimed concert halls throughout the world, including Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space NY, Kombank Dvorana, Teatro Zarzuela in Madrid, and Kolarčeva Zadužbina in Belgrade, among many others. In February 2022, she released her first album, Transibérica, with Sony Music Entertainment Portugal.
