In the words of Jane Austen, "But indeed, I would rather have nothing but tea." At Goodnow, we believe there is no better way then to celebrate her 250th birthday with afternoon tea! Tea was a central part of British culture during the 18th and 19th centuries, which is the period in which Jane Austen lived and wrote. After enjoying afternoon tea (including tea sandwiches, scones, and desserts) we will learn about the history of tea around Jane Austen's time from local tea importer and connoisseur Hartley Johnson from the Mark T. Wendell Tea Company. He will also lecture about tea cultivation, tea varieties and facts about the Acton based on a 121 year old tea importing firm.  To close, we will have the chance to put our Jane Austen knowledge to the test with some trivia and (of course) win Jane Austen themed prizes!  This program is for Adults and Teens! Check them into the Sudbury Stuffie Surgery located in the Sara Sherman NOW Lab.  Using our sewing equipment, volunteers will perform minor repairs to get your friend feeling better. Please join us for the first of Goodnow Library's Winter Concert Series featuring harpist Cesar Secundino. Cesar Secundino is a harpist, arranger and composer who comes from Monterrey, Mexico. He has performed internationally at some of the world's most acclaimed concert halls. Cesar has been awarded prizes at many international harp competitions in Mexico, Spain, France, Wales, Germany and the Netherlands. He was the first Grand Prize winner at The 1st World Harp Competition in Utrecht, the Netherlands. His passion for jazz and world music has led him to write arrangements and compositions.
