The Jacob Edwards Library is pleased to host an exhibit by Megan Garlie.  From the artist: "I am a self-taught artist who works primarily with oil and acrylic paints, though I recently began my journey in wildlife photography as well. Originally from Canada, I moved to Southbridge as a child and grew up here. I began painting during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 while stuck in my apartment during grad school, and in the last four years have spent a lot of time working on learning with each piece of art I create. I am often drawn towards nature and landscapes when painting, as you will see in the collection of works on display. I have shown pieces in the 2023 and 2024 Jacob Edwards Library Women’s Month art shows and in the 2024 Harvard Staff art show. This is my first solo exhibition."

Meet and Greet will be held on Thursday, November 7th at 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm. All welcome! Each week three friends gather to paint – here is their story and paintings Rose Rodio (Webster, MA) 22 years ago, my friend, Mary Lu convinced me to take an acrylic painting class. When the class ended, we decided to get together once a week to paint. Several years ago, Bernie joined us and I gained a painting buddy and a friend. We critique each other’s paintings and enjoy each other’s company to a glass of wine and background music. Mary Lu Garrow (Oxford, MA) I have enjoyed painting for over twenty years. The medium I use is acrylic, and my themes are varied and inspire joy in me. For me painting is a weekly get together with friends. It is both social and tranquil. It allows me to become immersed in shaping, blending and realizing contentment with my finished painting. Bernie Meade (Southbridge, MA) Each week, I join my good friends in the creativity of painting. Upon returning to MA to live after retirement, I also returned to painting after more than thirty years. Rose and Mary Lu have taught me a lot through their unique talents. My favorite thing to paint is flowers and it is on my bucket list to become a botanical illustrator. Life is joy each week in our painting group.

The mission of the Friends of the Jacob Edwards Library is to be the advocacy and fundraising arm of the Library. We are a non-profit organization that raises money for items such as library programs, books, subscriptions, museum pass memberships, and other materials, as needed. Donations of gently used books are accepted. Meetings are held on the first Monday of the month, unless a holiday. New members are always welcome! Our membership dues go directly toward supporting the Jacob Edwards Library.

Creative music and movement class for care giver and baby from birth to 2.5 years November 5 at 9:45 am New session starting November 12,19, Dec 3,10, and 17, 2024  at NEW TIME  9:30 AM A 30 minute creative movement group for ages birth through 2.5 with a grown-up. Group is focused on adult and baby spending quality time together, fostering attachment, and baby interacting with others their age. Get groovy to upbeat music with props, instruments, and a story. Katelyn graduated from Antioch University, New England, where she earned a Master of Arts degree in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling. She studied psychomotor development of children, along with focuses on the intellectual/developmental disability and autistic communities, and older adults. Katelyn has been providing dance experiences to Massachusetts and Northeastern Connecticut for 15 years as well as working in various day habilitation and residential programs. She also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Dance with a minor in Disability Studies from Springfield College where she focused her studies on choreography, modern dance and improvisation, and pedagogy. Katelyn teaches dance classes to all ages at several studios.

Tuesdays 10:15am-10:45am   Explore creative movement and create choreography that goes along with the words in a story book. This 30 minute group is where Katelyn and kiddos work together to bring a story to life! Best for ages 2.5-4 Katelyn graduated from Antioch University, New England, where she earned a Master of Arts degree in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling.
