Try Aequora and see how Latin can improve your critical and analytical thinking, language arts skills, and problem solving! Aequora is an outreach program of the Paideia Institute, designed to be an engaging, relevant, and inclusive introductory Latin curriculum. The Aequora curriculum will introduce the basics of Latin vocabulary, grammar, Roman culture, and mythology through interactive activities, hands-on story-telling, and exciting games. Such activities include matching games and puzzles, acting out skits and plays, creating crafts that the Romans used to make, and (safe) relay races. More importantly, Aequora is designed to engage the student's critical and analytical thinking skills, whether through re-enacting a famous ancient battle or a serious discussion about the outdated societal norms enacted by the Romans. This class is led by Aaron Z as part of our Teens Teach program. This class will meet on Thursdays throughout the summer. A memory café is a welcoming place for people living with cognitive changes their care partners, family and friends. It’s an opportunity to have an enjoyable afternoon listening to music, socializing with others who understand and to explore new things.  P.E. James will perform at the July 18th memory café. P.E. has been entertaining audiences by singing and playing acoustic guitar for over four decades. He is an interpreter of well-known songs, having a large repertoire that ranges from sing-along classics, standards and show tunes, to acoustic rock songs of the 70’s. The Good Day Café meets the first and third Friday of each month in the Shrewsbury Public Library from 2 – 3:30 PM. Performances will start at 2 PM. Social time 1:30 - 2 PM. Impress your friends and family with some new recipes! In this summer series of cooking classes we’ll be focusing on foods that are great for hot days. Participants will get to experiment with ingredients and flavors as they learn how to make the following dishes: July 9th - Onigiri (Rice Balls with Vegetarian Fillings) July 23rd - Picnic/Tea Party Spread August 6th - Fresh Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich Register for each class (July 9th, 23rd, and August 6th) separately. As a poor kid in a wealthy school district, better-off kids crowd impatiently behind him as he tries to explain to the cashier that he’s on the free meal program. The lunch lady is hard of hearing, so Rex has to shout. Free Lunch is the story of Rex’s efforts to navigate his first semester of sixth grade—who to sit with, not being able to join the football team, Halloween in a handmade costume, classmates and a teacher who take one look at him and decide he’s trouble—all while wearing secondhand clothes and being hungry. His mom and her boyfriend are out of work, and life at home is punctuated by outbursts of violence. Halfway through the semester, his family is evicted and ends up in government-subsidized housing in view of the school. Rex lingers at the end of last period every day until the buses have left, so no one will see where he lives. Unsparing and realistic, Free Lunch is a story of hardship threaded with hope and moments of grace. Try Aequora and see how Latin can improve your critical and analytical thinking, language arts skills, and problem solving! Aequora is an outreach program of the Paideia Institute, designed to be an engaging, relevant, and inclusive introductory Latin curriculum. The Aequora curriculum will introduce the basics of Latin vocabulary, grammar, Roman culture, and mythology through interactive activities, hands-on story-telling, and exciting games. Such activities include matching games and puzzles, acting out skits and plays, creating crafts that the Romans used to make, and (safe) relay races. More importantly, Aequora is designed to engage the student's critical and analytical thinking skills, whether through re-enacting a famous ancient battle or a serious discussion about the outdated societal norms enacted by the Romans. This class is led by Aaron Z as part of our Teens Teach program. This class will meet on Thursdays throughout the summer. "Deb Perelman is the author of two best-selling cookbooks; one of the internet’s most successful food bloggers; the creator of a homegrown brand with more than a million Instagram followers; and the self-taught cook with the tiny kitchen who obsessively tests her recipes to make sure that no bowls are wasted and that the results are always worth the effort.
