The 4-H ALARM Robotics team out of Franklin, MA is leading a 12-week LEGO robotics club at the Plainville Public Library. Participants will be using creativity and LEGO technology to learn building and teamwork skills, in preparation for a showcase on April 25th. Students in pre-K through 1st grade (Discovery) will meet weekly in the Children's Department, and students in grades 2-4 (Explore) will meet in the Adult Fiction Department. Please note, Lego League will not meet during February Break. There will also be a bonus class on Wednesday, April 8th to prepare for the showcase. Author, professor and travel addict, Matt Davis, will be here with an entertaining and suspenseful evening of travel tales and tips with photos of course. Matt has been to over 35 countries and criss-crossed the United States more than 40 times. He has written a book "At Home in the World: Reflections of a Travel Addict"  which will be available for sale and autographing after the program.  Colliding with a kangaroo in Australia, navigating Italy’s strict dining customs, trying to avoid choking on a popular Japanese confection, strolling the shore’s of Israel’s Sea of Galilee: these are some of the humorous, suspenseful, and introspective highlights of one traveler’s international adventures. Join our Mini Art Show! This is a fun event for patrons of all ages to show off their art skills on an adorably small 3" x 3" canvas. Decorate a 3" x 3" canvas and return it to the library by March 16 for an exhibition of Plainville mini art! A limited number of 3' x 3" canvases will be available starting February 14.  Please register for a canvas.  You can submit your own canvas as long as it is no bigger than 3" x 3". Yes your art can be 3D as long as it no bigger than a 3x3x3 cube. This is open to all ages and you don't have to an artist to participate! All you have to be is creative! The Rules:​ One canvas per person or group. The title and subject of the work must be family-friendly. ​Draw an arrow on the back of the canvas to indicate the top of your piece (i.e. This side up). Print your first name on the back of the canvas. Patrons can use any materials/mediums - paints, markers, objects, paper, fabric, etc.; except for food and anything electronic or battery powered. All materials may be glued to the canvas, but artwork must remain 3"x3"x3". No vulgarity of any kind permitted - this is a family art show! Staff reserves the right to reject any canvases that do not follow these rules!
