The Library will donate all cards to Seniors through the Meals on Wheels program in collaboration with the Senior Community Center. This is an all-ages program with 2 stations set up in the library to make cards. One station is in the Reference Area while the other is in the Teen Loft. Supplies will be provided. We're so excited to be chatting with modern day homesteader, blogger, and author Victoria Pruett about her book "Creating a Modern Homestead: Traditional Skills for Real, Everyday Life"! You all know that we are always trying to find ways to be more sustainable so Victoria will walk us through various aspects of homesteading - cooking from scratch, food preservation, backyard chickens, backyard gardening, natural pest control, etc. so you can get a broad overview of simple life changes that you could make to get closer to nature and less dependent on large, commercial organizations. Hopefully, you'll find a tidbit or two that you can practice in your daily life.  About the Presenter: Victoria Pruett is the writer, and homesteader behind "A Modern Homestead". In her book, "A Modern Homestead", you’ll find from-scratch recipes from our Southern kitchen, homesteading skills that you can pursue from anywhere in the world, and tried-and-true einkorn flour recipes your whole family will love. In 2014, Victoria was living in a subdivision house with no yard and dreaming of life on a homestead. She had grown up with grandparents on both sides who loved gardening, canning, and scratch-cooking and knew she wanted to stay connected to those roots. Doing everything she could to homestead in the city became her passion project. Soon, her passion grew to the point that she knew she wanted to help others learn how to live a more traditional life, even in the city. So, "A Modern Homestead" was born and she began sharing her journey online with the world. Today, millions of people visit this site every year to make Victoria's recipes and use her gardening tips to turn their homesteading dreams into a reality. You’re officially in your 2nd year of Everbright Academy. The school has decided to send you out into the field, specifically to Lady's Crave, a seaside city, that needs your help. Will you help the rebels or the city guard? The choice is up to you! This game is for new players as well as experienced ones. To play all you need is a level 4 character. Premade character sheets will be provided. As we will not have time to make character sheets at the start of sessions, you will need to attend a D&D 101 if you need help making your own character sheet. The library is partnering with Family Connections to offer three yoga sessions for children ages 3-5 and their caregivers! Registration is required for this program via this link. Space is limited to ten child-caregiver pairs. This session will be run by Lisa Melkonian of North Shore Children's Wellness. No experience or equipment is necessary, but you'll want to wear comfortable clothes and bring water. We've all heard of Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, and Malcolm X--each a household name for their involvement with the American Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. But have you heard of Nannie Helen Burroughs who fired up the crowd in 1900 with her impassioned “How the Sisters Are Hindered From Helping”? How about Pauli Murray who became the first Black woman ordained an Episcopalian priest, or Ella Baker, or Claudette Colvin who was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a bus nine months before Rosa Parks?  Even though they stayed out of the limelight or simply predated the 1960s, the contributions of these individuals were just as important in fueling the movement as were the legendary historical figures we learned about in school.
