Come join one of Needham's Community Outreach Clinicians, Tony Serio and our Young Adult Librarian, Erin Bassett as we meet for 2 different back-to back sessions of snacks and facts.  We'll be meeting most Mondays after school in the Needham Community Room for Common Ground Conversations and Brain Break Activities (and yes, the snacks will be coming back too). To be able to facilitate more meaningful conversations, we've decided to mix it up this year with 2 different sessions! High Schoolers will meet first from 2:45 - 3:30 pm and Middle Schoolers are welcome to join in from 3:30 - 4:15 pm We'll also have some tables set up at the back of the room in case teens would like to come down and do their homework inside the Community Room. Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw One of George Bernard Shaw's best-known plays, Pygmalion was a rousing success on the London and New York stages, an entertaining motion picture and a great hit with its musical version, My Fair Lady. An updated and considerably revised version of the ancient Greek legend of Pygmalion and Galatea, the 20th-century story pokes fun at the antiquated British class system. In Shaw's clever adaptation, Professor Henry Higgins, a linguistic expert, takes on a bet that he can transform an awkward cockney flower seller into a refined young lady simply by polishing her manners and changing the way she speaks. In the process of convincing society that his creation is a mysterious royal figure, the Professor also falls in love with his elegant handiwork. The irresistible theme of the emerging butterfly, together with Shaw's brilliant dialogue and splendid skills as a playwright, have made Pygmalion one of the most popular comedies in the English language. In this beginner friendly class, you’ll learn how to sculpt basic shapes and attach them together. Needle felting is fun, easy, and relaxing!
