NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING Organization: Pollard Memorial Library Board of Trustees Location: Pollard Memorial Library 401 Merrimack St. Lowell, MA 01852 Ground Floor Meeting Room and via Zoom On March 29, 2023, Governor Healey signed into law a supplemental budget bill which, among other things, extends the temporary provisions pertaining to the Open Meeting Law to March 31, 2025. Specifically, this further extension allows public bodies to continue holding meetings remotely without a quorum of the public body physically present at a meeting location, and to provide "adequate, alternative" access to remote meetings. The language does not make any substantive changes to the Open Meeting Law other than extending the expiration date of the temporary provisions regarding remote meetings from March 31, 2023 to March 31, 2025. Members of the public wishing to attend the meeting and/or speak regarding a specific agenda item should email the Library Director at [email protected] indicating your name and on which agenda item(s) you would like to speak. Since the meeting is hybrid, you may attend in-person in the Ground Floor Meeting Room at the Library or online. If the meeting is hybrid and you do not wish to attend in-person, you will be sent the access information needed to join the meeting. This is a virtual program. Please register using the link below in order to receive Zoom information. For ages 3 weeks to pre-crawlers and their grownups (approximate age range is 0-8/9 months) Baby Yoga is a class-focused on gentle movement and developmentally-safe yoga poses for the babies! The parent assists the baby into easy folds and simple stretches timed with sweet songs and rhymes. The parent does little to no physical yoga themselves as these poses are solely focused on supporting the baby's growing body. Modifications and instruction are provided for a baby's particular developmental stage during the class to ensure that every sweet pea is practicing the poses designed just for that age and stage. Parents are encouraged to take breaks as needed during the class to nurse, feed, or change a diaper. Please register by clicking HERE. Author, Julia Fox Garrison will be speaking about Personal Healthcare Discoveries and her book Don't Leave Me This Way.  Copies of Julia's book will be available to check out starting on February 1, 2026 at the Ground Floor Circulation Desk. About Julia Fox Garrison: Julia Fox Garrison is a seasoned keynote speaker and the bestselling author of Don’t Leave Me This Way (or when I get back on my feet you’ll be sorry), HarperCollins Publishers. The book chronicles her struggle to regain control over her life and her body following a massive hemorrhage resulting in a paralyzing stroke. As Julia claims, she has been hospitalized so many times she has earned a PhD (Personal Healthcare Discoveries) - -a blueprint for how not to let the system dictate the direction, pace, and objectives of one’s recovery. About Moses Greeley Parker and the Parker Lecture Series: Moses Greeley Parker was born in Dracut in 1842. He became a physician and served as a surgeon during the Civil War. While in the Army, he planned and oversaw construction of the largest hospital in the world in Virginia. Upon returning to civilian life, Dr. Parker joined the medical and surgical staff at St. John’s Hospital as a practicing ophthalmologist. In 1876, Dr. Parker attended a lecture here in Lowell presented by a young inventor and teacher of the deaf in Boston by the name of Alexander Graham Bell. During that lecture, Alexander demonstrated his new invention, the telephone. Dr. Parker was intrigued and became a major investor in Bell Telephone. During a measles epidemic, Dr. Parker realized that if the town’s telephone operator fell ill, a substitute would have difficulty making accurate connections since it was done by name only. So he came up with the idea of adding telephone numbers. Upon his death in 1917, Dr. Parker established a trust to fund free lectures for the residents of Greater Lowell. Lowell Community Mosaic Build Join us at the Pollard Memorial Library on March 21 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM to help create a community mosaic celebrating Lowell. Working alongside the mosaic artist, community members will have the opportunity to place pieces directly into the mosaic design. All materials will be provided, and no experience is necessary. This special project is sponsored by the Pollard Memorial Library Foundation, whose support helps bring community art and cultural experiences to the library. After the event, the artist will take the mosaic back to the studio to complete the finishing work. The finished piece will be unveiled and permanently installed in the library on April 18.
