For most of the 20th century, government agentssystematically forced Native children from their homes and placed them withwhite families. Many children suffered devastating emotional harm by adults whoshamed and demeaned them, and tried to erase their culture. In Maine thefallout was unbearable. Dawnland tells the story of the MaineWabanaki-State Child Welfare Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the first inthe U.S. to address Native issues. For over two years, Native and non-Nativecommissioners traveled across Maine to hear testimony and bear witness to thedramatic impact of the state’s child welfare practices on Wabanaki families. Dawnlandtakes viewers to Wabanaki communities and inside the truth commission as itgrapples with the meaning of truth, reconciliation, racial healing, tribalautonomy, and child welfare system reform. This film will shown twice - at 11 am and 7 pm. This is a free event and no registration is required.

The Buttonwoods Museum will be hosting the first annual Artisan Fair fundraiser on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 11am-5pm at the Buttonwoods Museum, 240 Water Street, Haverhill, MA.(Please take John Ward Ave. to museum entrance).There will be 2 floors of a wide variety of over 30 talented Artisans from the Merrimack Valley area selling their hand-made items inside the Buttonwoods Museum! This a great way to spend your Saturday rain or shine because it’s indoors!Admission is free to the public. There will also be handmade items from the Artisans available for raffle, including a 50/50 raffle! Plus food and drinks will be available for sale at our concession table!All net proceeds from the fair benefit the Buttonwoods Museum to help maintain the museum properties and provide educational programs for all ages. The Buttonwoods Museum is a non-profit organization and relies on fundraisers, grants, and donor support to keep our doors open to the public, so please come by and show your support!
