Talk Yoga classes incorporate movement, mindfulness, games, and music to boost language, articulation, and sensory awareness. Benefitting children of all abilities, these classes help students connect their minds and body and gain acceptance, confidence, and self-awareness. About the Instructor: Jen's journey with speech and language began as a parent of a child with Apraxia of Speech. Working with her then-preschooler daily, she learned the fundamentals of language and articulation and saw the benefits of pairing speech and movement. When Jen discovered Talk Yoga she knew it would be perfect for her and her daughter and became a certified instructor in 2022. Jen has been a student of yoga for the past 20 years and is currently enrolled in her 200-hour teacher training. When not practicing yoga, Jen works as a graphic designer and art director. She loves creating and inspiring clients to reach their full potential. Outside of the yoga and design studio, she enjoys hiking, paddleboarding, reading, and spending time with family. Music from the Library, sponsored by the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library, presents three concerts in the library rotunda in its 2024 spring season: February 24, March 16, and April 20. All concerts are Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. The doors open at 7 p.m. The concerts are free, but reservations are required.  Starting two weeks before each concert, register below or make reservations by phone at 978-318-3301. April 20 (Registration begins on April 6 at 9am) Duo guitarists Robert Ward and Alexander Dunn perform works of Haydn, Beethoven, J.K. Mertz, and Antoine l’Hoyer. The artists are cousins, and they grew up making music together. Both attended the San Francisco Conservatory and the University of California, San Diego, are proteges of the world-famous Los Romeros, and have performed as a duo in the US, Mexico, and Canada in festivals, concerts, and concertos with orchestra. This slide presentation will feature videos and photos of wildlife from Well Meadow, the pristine wetland off Fairhaven Bay, on Concord’s southeast boundary. Well Meadow was a frequent destination for Henry David Thoreau. Ron’s trail camera monitors traffic on a beaver dam that crosses the swamp. We’ll see images and videos of the wide variety of animals that use this bridge: mink, otter, bobcat, and many other species. Thoreau kept an appreciative eye on Well Meadow vegetation—we’ll hear his observations about some of the plants that anchor this rich natural community.  You can sample one of Ron's wildlife videos here. Please join us in the Goodwin Forum for a presentation and book signing with the Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin for her newest book, An Unfinished Love Story: A Personal History of the 1960s. One of America’s most beloved historians, Doris artfully weaves together biography, memoir, and history. She takes us along on the emotional journey she and her husband, Richard (Dick) Goodwin embarked upon in the last years of his life. Concord’s own Dick and Doris Goodwin were married for forty-two years and married to American history even longer. In his twenties, Dick was one of the brilliant young men of John F. Kennedy’s New Frontier. In his thirties he both named and helped design Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society and was a speechwriter and close advisor to Robert Kennedy. Doris Kearns was a twenty-four-year-old graduate student when selected as a White House Fellow. She worked directly for Lyndon Johnson and later assisted on his memoir. Over the course of the academic year (Oct-May), Concord Girls Who Code members learn a variety of coding skills and work together to design, create, and produce a project that addresses a real world problem. Our adult and teen facilitators have a range of coding and project development skills. They teach and mentor participants, encouraging them to develop their abilities and confidence.  We do expect a commitment to weekly attendance. This year, we will meet in person in the workshop. Members are encouraged to bring their own computers if they can; otherwise, they can use a library laptop. We do not meet during school vacation weeks. What is Girls Who Code? Girls Who Code was started in 2012 with the single mission to close the gender gap in technology. It is a national program designed to inspire, educate, and prepare girls with computing and problem-solving skills to pursue 21st-century opportunities. Girls with a curiosity about emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, apps, and game development will learn about these interests and more in a fun and relaxed environment.
