A waitlist will be activated once the class is full.In this class students will be introduced to the printmaking process of linocut. The class will cover techniques in carving linoleum, composition, ink mixing, and printing. At their own pace students will learn how to create a design and carve it in linoleum using tools. Students will learn how to ink and print their linoleum blocks by hand. In a relaxed and welcoming environment, students will create many beautiful prints of their own as well as collaborate with their classmates.This class is suitable for beginners and can be adjusted for all levels of experience. All materials will be provided.This class is taught by artist Brooke Lambert.About the teacher:Brooke Lambert is a professional printmaker and painter who exhibits her work in New England, New York and beyond. Since receiving her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2017, Brooke has shown her work in 16 solo shows and over 20 juried shows. Brooke is represented by Akua Inks and Speedball as part of their Professional Artists' Network (https://www.speedballart.com/pro-artist.../brooke-lambert/) She has been awarded grants for five public art projects for Amesbury, Dorchester, and her current city of Lowell, MA. Participants will learn coping strategies, and develop a personalized approach for honoring their grief and loved ones through the holiday season. Topics will include:- The impact of the holiday season on grief - Strategies for coping with various and emotions and reactions- Creating meaningful ways to honor and remember loved ones- Setting boundaries and practicing self-care- Managing expectations and social pressure- Finding balance between grieving and participating in holiday activities Dr. Kristen Dillon is a licensed clinical psychologist and board-certified Geropsychologist specializing in hospice, palliative care, and bereavement. She serves as a Staff Psychologist in Hospice & Palliative Care at VA Bedford, providing psychotherapy and grief support for Veterans and their families. Registrants will receive a link to access the Zoom Webinar via email.**Author Masachs Boungou will discuss his new book, Shared Prosperity: A Path Forward For Sub-Saharan Africa, in this Zoom webinar.Masachs Boungou is from the Republic of the Congo. Born to a mother who never finished high school but emphasized to him the inspirational power of personal history and education, he survived a civil war in 1999 and taught himself English as an adult. As a Fulbright scholar, he received a dual master's degree from Brandeis University's Heller School for Social Policy and Management in 2016. From 2016-2018, he founded and ran the ''Nunga Program," a social enterprise focusing on youth entrepreneurship, peacebuilding, and leadership in the Congo. In 2018, Masachs received the New Leaders Group Award from the Institute of International Education (IIE) and subsequently was awarded a grant for social change from the Pollination Project in 2020. He earned a Ph.D. in Global Studies in 2022 from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. His thesis explores how immigrants who experienced genocide and/or civil war use these experiences to fuel their entrepreneurial drive and business creation. Using simple craft materials and everyday supplies, students make their very own puppets. Then they learn how to bring to life these wonderful new creations, using exercises that Liars and Believers use in the creation of our own shows. Through our workshop, students learn about actively using their breath, concentration and focus, and using stillness. Registrants will receive a link to access the Zoom Webinar via email.** Retired Massachusetts Superior Court Justice Dennis Curran is excited to continued his monthly "Great American Unsung Heroes Who Changed The Course Of History" series.Learn about Elizabeth Freeman, a little-known national hero, and a symbol of courage and spirit to all who cherish freedom. She was among the first slaves in Massachusetts to sue for and win her freedom. During the Revolutionary War, Freeman heard the Massachusetts Constitution read aloud, and heard these words: “All men are born free and equal….” Freeman recognized the potential legal and moral significance of these words and sought out an attorney to sue for her freedom under the newly-ratified state constitution. With the help of an attorney who was an abolitionist, she pled her case for freedom in a western Massachusetts court. The jury ruled in her favor and she became the first African-American woman set free under the Massachusetts constitution. Her case helped end slavery in Massachusetts.Dennis J. Curran served as a Massachusetts judge for 16 years, including in the Superior Court from 2006 to 2018. Prior to his time on the bench, Curran worked as an Assistant District Attorney and First Assistant Legal Counsel to the Governor, in addition to work in private practice. A graduate of Boston Latin School, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Virginia School of Law, Curran has taught law at Tufts University, Roger Williams University School of Law, and Brown University.
