Welcome to Gleason Knitters! We are a group of local Massachusetts knitters and crocheters who meet on the first and third Friday of the month at Carlisle’s Gleason Library from 10:30 – 12:00. We range from beginners to more experienced crafters.   In meetings we work on our current projects, discuss types of yarn/supplies, and show what we are working on.  There is also help available for reading patterns or learning new techniques. Come to the library to read to Rudy, a certified reading therapy dog!  Read to a dog programs help kids develop literacy skills and build confidence & self-esteem. Rudy is looking forward to sharing a favorite book with you! Therapy dogs provide warm and non-judgmental reading companions for new or experienced readers. Children, ages 5-9, will enjoy one-on-one time reading aloud to this gentle, comforting, 6-year old Black Lab as they practice their fluency and strengthen their confidence in reading.  Children may bring their own book from home or choose to read one from the library collection.  Please arrive at the children's desk 5-10 minute before your session begins. Join us for the Commonwealth Ballet Company's special performance of a sampling of their holiday show, "The Nutcracker." This is a wonderful opportunity for children to see and meet their favorite characters from the holiday tale. The Ballet dancers will be available to answer questions and pose for photos with the children after the reading. This program is recommended for children ages 4-10, but all ages are welcome! Afterward, we'll enjoy refreshments and a fun Nutcracker-inspired craft hosted by our wonderful Friends of the Gleason Public Library. This fun program is sponsored by our Friends of the Gleason Public Library. The Friends is a 501(c)(3) charitable corporation made up of volunteers interested in supporting and enhancing the programs, services, and materials available to our community through the Gleason Public Library. Baby Lapsit is a 20-minute interactive story time experience for our youngest library users and their caregiver. Join us for stories, songs, rhymes, and bounces that are developmentally appropriate for children from birth to when they start walking. This Lapsit program is just for you and the baby! Enjoy time together with other parents, caregivers and babies to learn, play and develop language, early literacy, and motor skills. Come prepared to sit on the floor one-on-one with your baby in your lap. Create your own gingerbread house with help from crafter extraordinaire, Mandy Roberge,  on Monday, December 15th, at 4:00 p.m. Both the Gingerbread House & decorating supplies  (with everything you will need to make your own gingerbread house) will be provided in the workshop. Please bring along a large box or tote to safely transport the Gingerbread house back home. So that more families may participate in the gingerbread fun, we have booked two sessions of this Gingerbread House workshop. Please make sure to be aware of which of the two sessions you are registering for. Please sign up as a family (it is fine to have siblings working together on one gingerbread house together).
