For more information, please visit English At Large.  Registration is required to regularly attend conversation groups. Register ****HERE**** The Burlington Public Library has partnered with English At Large to host conversation groups at the library. English At Large conversation groups are groups of 8-12 learners who meet weekly to practice their English speaking skills. The groups provide an opportunity for learners to improve their speaking confidence and meet other adults who are learning English. All groups are free! There is no cost to attend our conversation groups. All adults who want to practice their English speaking skills are welcome at our groups. We recommend that you have at least an intermediate English speaking level. If you can speak on the telephone without too much difficulty, your English speaking ability is likely at an intermediate level. Conversation groups are not English classes. Our trained volunteers focus mainly on listening and speaking, and less on reading and writing. Baker Meetup has arrived!   Adults and teenagers will gather monthly to swap baked goods, share tips and tricks, and learn new skills from other home bakers.   This will be a casual hour-long program for new and seasoned bakers alike!  Each month participants will vote and we will have a winner...and we may even have guest judges from time to time! No registration required for most sessions - just drop in.  If you are able, please bring a baked good according to the monthly themes (listed below)!  Ensure you bring a tin/box to take leftovers home! Upcoming Themes Kickoff! October - Bring your favorite dessert - show us what you got!  For this month, the opportunities are wide open!  November - Bread/Rolls, sweet or savory, you decide!  December - Our second annual cookie swap! (Separate registration will be required for this month only, listed on our calendar two weeks before.) January - Bring a dessert that is based off of any children's book in our collection.  It can be a literal item or your interpretation!  If you can, bring a copy of the book for a photo op next to your creation! February - Spread the Love - make something with Valentine's Day in mind.  Be sure to incorporate at least one heart in your submission. March - Bring any recipe prepared by contestants on any episode of The Great British Bake Off (you have ten seasons to work with!).  If you need help, ask at the Reference desk. This is a potluck event as mentioned in M.G.L. Chapter 94, Section 328A. Open to artists of all skill levels.  The instructor, Zangar Freeman, is a first-generation Liberian-American jewelry artist, educator, and veteran who integrates cultural storytelling and art therapy practices into his beadwork.  Registration opens two weeks before event. You may only register for one session (either afternoon or evening). They are identical programs and we want to accommodate as many patrons as possible.  The workshop will run between 60-90 minutes. Pokémon trainers in grades 3+ are invited to attend part 2 of a Pokémon Palooza- our Community Pokémon Tournament! Kids in grades 3-8 will compete in a Kids bracket, while both teens in grades 9-12 and adults ages 18+ will compete in a Teen/Adult bracket for the Library title of Top Trainer! Trainers will be randomly assigned places in your age bracket and you'll work your way through the matches over the course of the evening. We'll have pizza and casual card trading set up as folks stop progressing through the tournament, and we highly encourage spectating of the active matches. While this tournament is beginner-friendly, we do ask that participants have a basic understanding of Pokémon tournament rules. With the exception that this tournament will be composed of best-of-one matches, rather than standard best-of-three. To participate in this event, trainers will need to bring their own decks, though a limited amount of booster cards will be available.  IMPORTANT: All participants must enter the event between 5:30PM-6PM as this is an after-hours event. Doors to the Library lock promptly at 6PM. You are welcome to leave at any time! Children and teens under age 18 must attend with a caregiver and may not be dropped off alone. Teens in grades 6 through 12 are being asked to volunteer their time and help us make fuse bead creations that the library will use to make keychains, pins and magnets. These fuse bead creations will be used as prizes and rewards in future events. The library will supply all the materials you need so all you have to bring is your creativity!  You will receive one hour of volunteer time for helping at this activity. Questions?
