We'll have the (video) fire roaring, tea, adult coloring sheets, and board games. Our board game collection includes Uno, Castles of Mad King Ludwig, Root, and more. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) offers free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals. For more information on their services, please contact (617) 863-7376 or [email protected]. Drop Off Tax Assistance Taxpayers must show social security cards for all individuals in the tax return. VITA does not prepare state only tax forms, and taxes for visa holders, with the exemption of Au Pairs. VITA will prepare only the tax year 2024. Tax returns with ITIN will be mailed by the taxpayer to the IRS and State. Taxpayers will leave income documents for tax preparation.​ All documents will be returned when the taxpayer comes back to pick up the completed federal and state tax forms on the following service day, or tax return will be emailed for approval.​ Household income limit is $70,000.

Join us at the Brighton Branch Library for a creative art workshop led by artist Raquel Fornasaro, for kids ages 8 to 12! During this workshop, Raquel will guide young artists in painting scenes inspired by their favorite books, beloved characters, or imaginative stories on canvas. In a fun and supportive environment, participants will explore storytelling through art while developing their artistic skills. Their finished works will be displayed in the library’s children’s room, adding a vibrant, personal touch for everyone to enjoy. Space is limited—register today and let’s bring stories to life through art!  This program is made possible by the Boston Public Library Fund's Creative Catalyst Grant.  About the artist: Based in Boston, Raquel Fornasaro is an interdisciplinary artist whose work has exhibited at the Brazilian Consulate in Boston, Harvard's Crossings Gallery, MIT’s Media Lab, The Umbrella Arts Center, and the Boston MFA. Join the Unreal Reads fiction book club to discuss Dixon, Descending by Karen Outen. A debut novel described as a powerful, heartrending story about ambition, survival, and our responsibilities to one another. We typically meet on the first Thursday of the month, 6:30 pm at the Brighton Branch, barring holidays or special events. No registration required, you're welcome to drop in. We also welcome readers who decided not to or weren't able to finish the book — as long as you're okay with spoilers! If you're participating in the Winter Reading Challenge, count this title in for the Americas. Debut author Karen Outen lives in Maryland. About the book: Once an Olympic-level runner, Dixon missed the team by two-tenths of a second, and ever since that pain decades ago, he hasn't allowed a goal to consume him. But when his charming older brother, Nate, suggests that they attempt to be the first Black American men to summit Mount Everest, Dixon can't refuse. The brothers are determined to prove something — to themselves and to each other. Dixon interrupts his orderly life as a school psychologist, leaving behind disapproving friends, family, and one particularly fragile student, Marcus. Once on the mountain, they are met with extreme weather conditions, oxygen deprivation, and precarious terrain. But as much as they've prepared for this, Mt. Everest is always fickle.
