Cumberland Valley Photographers ExhibitionMarch 29 – July 27, 2025 An annual tradition since the 1930s, this exhibition showcases, celebrates and supports artists of the Cumberland Valley region. This year’s juror, Christopher Gianunzio, is an independent curator based in Red Hook, New York and the former Exhibitions and Programming Director for the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center. To celebrate the exhibition opening, a panel discussion led by juror Christopher Gianunzio will be held on Saturday, March 29, followed by a reception. Charcoal Portraits with Gold Leaf: taught by portrait artist Nicole Troup  Date/Time: April 12 and April 19, 10a.m. – 2:30 p.m. (EST) Location: Virtual class. Link will be provided upon registration. Register & pay by calling the Donna Rastelli at 301-739-5727 About the workshop: In this workshop, portrait artist Nicole Troup, will help students explore gilding and charcoal together.  This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn how to draw the proportions of the face and shading without the added complications of color mixing. In addition to the proportions of the face, Troup will teach students how to think outside of the box and illuminate their portraits with a gold leaf design incorporated into the portrait. The workshop will span over two consecutive Saturdays giving students the opportunity to work on their drawings in between classes. Drawing instruction will be given on the anatomy of the face, simplifying the face into light and dark shapes, looking for correct value relationships and edges.  Gilding techniques will focus on using composite gold leaf and how to assimilate that with the charcoal and overall design of the portrait. Throughout the workshop, Troup will give demonstrations and critiques.   Details: A photo reference and material list will be provided for the students after registering for the workshop. The workshop will include a lunch break around 12pm. About the artist: Nicole Troup resides in Greencastle, Pennsylvania working as a commissioned portrait artist and instructor. A few of her clients include the VFW, doctors, CEOs, Mayors, WWE wrestler Titus O’Neil and many local clients.  She has also painted former Pennsylvania Governor, Thomas Corbett. Her work is collected across the United States, Canada and Great Britain. Troup is also active in many art societies including an Ambassador for the Portrait Society of America, a board member at large for the Maryland Society of Portrait Painters, a member of the Oil Painters of America, and the Portrait Society of Atlanta. Troup’s work has been featured in National and International magazines and journals, including the American Art Collector, Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine,  The Guide Artists Magazine, and the Journal of the Portrait Society of America.
