Explore a local Civil War history lecture while sipping a historical themed cocktail! Join us on Friday, June 12, from 6:00-8:00 PM, for a Civil War lecture presented by authors Jeffrey Harding and Dr. Jon Nese, based on their recently published book, The Weather Gods Curse the Gettysburg Campaign (The History Press, 2025). In this Culture & Cocktails lecture, Dr. Jon Nese and Jeffrey Harding will explore the weather conditions and their effects on the Battle of Gettysburg, using primary sources, groundbreaking meteorological research, and their knowledge as battlefield guides and meteorologists. This is a fascinating look at the Gettysburg Campaign from a new perspective! Dr. Jon Nese is an author and teaching professor in the Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science at Penn State University, and Jeffrey J. Harding is an author and Licensed Battlefield Guide at Gettysburg National Military Park. Culture & Cocktails is generously sponsored by the James & Mary Schurz Foundation. Join us on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, as Washington County Historical Society Executive Director, Andy Stout presents, “The Archeology of Springfield Farm,” a talk reporting on WCHS’s recent archeology project at the site. WCHS, in partnership with the Town of Williamsport, and with funding support from the Maryland Historic Trust, conducted the first ever archeological survey of the Springfield Farm site, a karst topography spring complex where thousands of years of human activity unfolded. Mr. Stout will present his findings for the first time during this presentation. Culture & Cocktails is generously sponsored by the James & Mary Schurz Foundation.
