Story Trees by the Sea Day One December 13 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm The Ogunquit Museum of American Art is excited to welcome you back to the second annual Story Trees by the Sea event, co-hosted with the Wells Public Library. Join us for a magical weekend as the Museum’s galleries transform into a winter wonderland filled with beautifully decorated trees created by local classrooms and community members. This two-day event, held on Saturday and Sunday, December 13th and 14th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is suitable for all ages and offers a great opportunity to engage during the Museum’s usual off-season!   Event Highlights: Enjoy children’s stories read aloud by local authors and student ambassadors. Participate in hands-on art activities led by Common Roots Studio Mobile Art Bus and artist Heather Lewis. Enjoy light snacks and refreshments. New this year, explore stunning portraits created by Advanced Art students at Traip Academy as part of a 12-week collaborative project with the Museum. In addition, view powerful photographic portraits by students from York High School. Visit the Museum’s gift shop for some holiday shopping!  This family-friendly event is free and open to all ages — no pre-registration is needed. Parking & Shuttle Service: Parking at the Museum is limited. Complimentary shuttle service will be available both days between the Cape Neddick Country Club parking lot and the Museum. The attention to detail is exquisite including Christmas trees, crèches, menorahs and much, much more. It is also the last chance to see the wonderful exhibits of 2025. A mile stretch of the beautiful Marginal Way was given to the Town 100 years ago by Josiah Chase so it would remain intact and for all to enjoy. We are showcasing many vintage photos but also art from past and present artists and photographers.   The Leavitt Theatre is also celebrating its centennial anniversary. We start with Frank and Annie Leavitt who built and ran it until 1970. Then segue into when Peter Clayton bought it in 1976. Peter’s son Max and his wife Emily have turned it into a magnificent entertaining theatre with bars and a restaurant!   To round out, our third exhibit is all about Perkins Cove Harbor Masters. Some hard working and some hardly working. We had the youngest Harbor Master in America in 1941. One Billy Tower who was 14 years old at the time!   There are many books, DVDs on Ogunquit, a Brenda Yorke Goodale bundle of all 3 of her books at a sale price, and the beautiful notecards presented by the Friends of OHM. Story Trees by the Sea Day Two December 14 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm The Ogunquit Museum of American Art is excited to welcome you back to the second annual Story Trees by the Sea event, co-hosted with the Wells Public Library. Join us for a magical weekend as the Museum’s galleries transform into a winter wonderland filled with beautifully decorated trees created by local classrooms and community members. This two-day event, held on Saturday and Sunday, December 13th and 14th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is suitable for all ages and offers a great opportunity to engage during the Museum’s usual off-season!   Event Highlights: Enjoy children’s stories read aloud by local authors and student ambassadors. Participate in hands-on art activities led by Common Roots Studio Mobile Art Bus and artist Heather Lewis. Enjoy light snacks and refreshments. New this year, explore stunning portraits created by Advanced Art students at Traip Academy as part of a 12-week collaborative project with the Museum. In addition, view powerful photographic portraits by students from York High School. Visit the Museum’s gift shop for some holiday shopping!  This family-friendly event is free and open to all ages — no pre-registration is needed.   Parking & Shuttle Service: Parking at the Museum is limited. Complimentary shuttle service will be available both days between the Cape Neddick Country Club parking lot and the Museum. In the Victorian era, Christmas was characterized by traditions like decorated Christmas trees, gift-giving, festive meals, and a focus on family, all heavily influenced by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's reign. Many of these customs, such as the decorated tree and gift exchanges, are still popular today. Mrs. Hurd was well known for her family gatherings, especially around the holiday times. In partnership with Ogunquit’s “Christmas by the Sea,” come and visit the Manor while it displays its holiday best.  Rooms are decorated with ornaments, trees and lights. This event is open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Please join the Museum for its Annual Open House during Christmas by the Sea. OHM is beautifully decorated for the Holidays. The attention to detail is exquisite including Christmas trees, crèches, menorahs and much, much more. It is also the last chance to see the wonderful exhibits of 2025. A mile stretch of the beautiful Marginal Way was given to the Town 100 years ago by Josiah Chase so it would remain intact and for all to enjoy. We are showcasing many vintage photos but also art from past and present artists and photographers.   The Leavitt Theatre is also celebrating its centennial anniversary.
