We're excited to host our next Leadership Luncheon for the Young Professionals community! In this series, you'll get tips and tricks (from local leaders) for aspiring entrepreneurs looking to start their own business as well as those looking to grow within their organizations.  Please join us on Tuesday, September 22nd from 12-1PM at Duffy's Tavern & Grill!  Tickets are $25 and covers the workshop, networking, a lunch buffet and soft drinks. Speaker Bios:   Cynthia Walker earned a B.S. in Public History and Middle Eastern Studies at Northeastern University; and an M.A. in History Museum Studies from the Cooperstown Graduate Program (SUNY). Her Master’s thesis focused on Brick Store Museum founder Edith Barry’s ethnocentrism via photographs and writings in the early 20th century. She completed two internships at the Museum prior to being hired as the Museum’s Exhibitions Curator from 2010 – 2011; Associate Director from 2012 – 2013; and became Executive Director in February 2014. Prior to the Brick Store Museum, Cynthia held positions at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston, Willowbrook Museum Village in Newfield, Maine, and Hyde Hall Historic Site and DeNicola Design in Cooperstown, New York. Cynthia is the Treasurer of the New England Museum Association and has served as a reviewer for the American Alliance of Museums, Institute of Museum & Library Services, Maine Arts Commission, and NASA Museums & Informal Institutions Panel. In her role as Director, Cynthia oversees the daily operations of the Museum, including fundraising; program development; interfacing with the Board of Trustees, staff and visitors; researching and installing new exhibitions; facilities management; and creating meaningful partnerships with local organizations, people and businesses. Her favorite part of this work is sharing stories. --   Aidan Madigan is the owner and creative force behind Siren Studios, a custom upholstery and soft goods business based in southern Maine. Named as a tribute both to the sirens of Greek mythology and her background as an EMT and firefighter, Siren Studios reflects Aidan’s connection to both the sea and service. She began her career as an apprentice to a master upholsterer, where she spent two years learning all aspects of the trade, including sewing, foam fabrication, materials, and production processes within a full-scale upholstery manufacturing environment. After being laid off during a seasonal slowdown, Aidan took it as the push she needed to fully step into entrepreneurship. She launched Siren Studios from her home, navigating the startup process independently while building a client base through networking and word of mouth. She quickly identified a niche in marine interiors, recognizing the high demand across Maine’s extensive network of marinas, boat builders, and refit yards. Today, her work focuses on marine upholstery and soft goods, a field that requires durability, precision, and an understanding of the harsh coastal environment where materials must withstand sun, salt, and constant use. As her business grew, Aidan transitioned from a home-based studio into a dedicated creative workspace in Lyman, Maine called Outskirts Studios. This studio now serves as both her production space and a client-facing showroom, allowing her to collaborate more closely with clients, showcase materials and finished work, and continue expanding her offerings. The space reflects her design perspective—rooted in craftsmanship, functionality, and coastal-inspired aesthetics—and marks an important step in the evolution of Siren Studios. Aidan lives in Alfred with her husband and is expecting her first child in June 2026. At home, she shares life with two dogs and two cats, and enjoys spending time outdoors—whether walking in the woods with her family or relaxing on the beach in Kennebunkport. Her work is deeply rooted in the coastal lifestyle that surrounds her, and she brings that perspective into every project she creates.

Whenever Oliver Wood isn't touring with The Wood Brothers — the Grammy-nominated roots trio that he co-founded in 2006 — he typically begins his mornings the same way: in Nashville, at home, with a coffee cup in his hand and a notebook in his lap. "There's a chair in my living room, right in front of a window," he says. "Every morning, I go down there to drink my coffee, meditate, and write. It's like a therapy session for me, because I can write without any specific goal in mind. I can be creative without being self-judgmental." Many of the songs from Fat Cat Silhouette, Wood's second solo record, began taking shape in that chair. Produced by his Wood Brothers’ bandmate Jano Rix, it's an album of unexpected twists and turns. Longtime fans will recognize the earnest, elastic voice that has always anchored the Wood Brothers' mix of forward-looking folk and southern country-funk, but Fat Cat Silhouette doesn't spend much time looking backward. Instead, it abandons convention, breaks a few rules, and positions Oliver Wood as a roots-music innovator who's every bit as interested in the process as the product. "I wanted to get outside my box and embrace the uncertainty of what's out there," he explains. "I wanted weird guitar tones. The song 'Yo I Surrender' has the worst guitar sound I've ever heard in my life, and I just love it. I wanted more percussion and less drums. Once we began experimenting and doing whatever we wanted, the pressure melted away and I felt liberated." On the album's opener, "Light and Sweet," Wood matches an imaginative storyline with a melody that leaps from ground level into the stratosphere. Eight songs later, he brings things to a close with "Fortune Drives the Bus," which he recorded on an iPhone in his own backyard. While tracking the rest of Fat Cat Silhouette to analog tape, Wood pushed himself to keep things weird. “Making this album was a process of being immediate, making quick decisions, and trusting that the universe and my years of experience would handle the rest,” explains Wood. Wood's years of experience have left him with a wide circle of collaborators, and Fat Cat Silhouette features performances from guests like Los Lobos' Steve Berlin (whose saxophone can be heard on the groove-heavy numbers "Whom I Adore” and “Yo I Surrender”), Ted Pecchio who handles bass duties throughout the collection and Marcus Henderson (who contributes flute and fife to “Whom I Adore”). Co-writers like Sean McConnell, Seth Walker, and Ric Robertson lend their help, too, while Katie Pruitt tackles a verse on the heartbroken soul ballad "Have You No Shame,” which was written by one of Wood’s mentors, the legendary Atlanta musician and songwriter Donnie McCormick. Jano Rix even pulls double-duty as producer and musician, anchoring the album's mix of mystery and melody with his percussion and keyboards. Despite the stacked guest list, some of Fat Cat Silhouette's best moments find Wood and Rix working together as a duo. On "Little Worries," Wood sketches a picture of a reflective morning in his armchair — a cat in the window, pancakes in the skillet, anxieties crossing and leaving his mind — over Rix's inventive pulse. "That song wasn't easy to finish," he remembers. "It required experimentation. Jano and I had to give ourselves permission to just be artists, rather than being a part of the music business." Later, when time constraints prevented them from adding horns to "Star in the Corner," they chose to sing the horn parts instead. "We innovated by stacking these ridiculous ohhhs and ooohs to create a faux choir sound," he explains. "It ended up being more original sounding than a horn sound, or at least a little less typical." A little less typical, indeed. That might as well be Fat Cat Silhouette’s mission statement. This is an album that finds the art in the unexpected, and Oliver Wood — whose songwriting and vocal chops remain as sharp as ever — at his most adventurous.

Join Seashore Trolley Museum in beautiful Kennebunkport, Maine for our 28th Annual Pumpkin Patch Trolley, taking place Friday-Sunday September 25-27, Friday-Sunday October 2-4, Friday-Monday October 9-12, and Friday-Sunday October 16-18. This event is the perfect fall event for families and friends of all ages to enjoy! Trolley rides to the pumpkin patch depart on our heritage railway from our Visitors Center at 9:45AM,10:30AM, 11:15AM, 12:00PM, 12:45PM, 1:30PM, 2:15PM and 3:00PM. Following a 30-minute ride, guests disembark the trolley at the pumpkin patch, where each member in your group can select a pumpkin to take home, even the adults! Guests hop back on the trolley for a ride back to our Visitors Center, where several museum and family activities are available: Activities include: Pumpkin Painting! Paint your pumpkin at our pumpkin painting station. Leave it out to dry while you enjoy other activities. Craft in a Bag! Make it at the event or take it home with you. Prize Walk! Round and round a circle of pictures you go; when the music stops, find a picture to stand next to. We spin the wheel and if your picture comes up, you win a prize! Play as many times as it takes to win. Photo Scavenger Hunt! Take the Seashore Challenge and go on a photo scavenger hunt around campus, using your phone to document your progress. When you're finished, post them to one of our social media pages, and you will be entered for a chance to win a 2027 Seashore Family Membership. Enjoy our Museum! Explore three carhouses filled with beautiful, restored trolleys and several other precious transit artifacts around our outdoor campus. Check out our new Maine Central Model Railroad Building. Costumes are Encouraged at our event! We will be giving out prizes each day for Best Costume, following a social media contest. If you would like to participate, make sure one of our staff takes your photo (and we'll be walking around to make sure we don't miss anyone). Food trucks & Lunch: We are currently working with our local food trucks to book food truck options every Saturday and Sunday event date. Friday Night Bites: Community Food Truck Event is back! Get ready to kick off Homecoming Weekend at Thornton Academy on Friday, October 2, from 4:30–6:30 PM at 438 Main Street in Saco! Come hungry because we’ve got an incredible lineup of food trucks serving up something for everyone:  Smokin’ Dads BBQ Gringos West-Coast Style Tacos Go See Tyce Jamaican BBQ A Sweet Ride Ice Cream Truck And that’s just the beginning! Enjoy snacks and beverages from the Friends of TAMS, grilled burgers and hot dogs from the TA Athletic Boosters, plus delicious treats and yummy favorites supporting Best Buddies.
