Spirituals, hymns, hollers and work songs were sung either to express a yearning for a better life or gratitude for already having one. Guitarist Walter Parks, longtime sideman to Woodstock legend Richie Havens, is fascinated by this historical music’s universal applicability and power and appears tonight with his group, the Unlawful Assembly including Ada Dyer, currently out on tour with Bruce Springsteen (November 2025). Tonight, music presented in a swampy style, borrowing from blues, Southern Rock and gospel.  Un unforgettable midwinter concert, guaranteed to transport the audience from the icy shores of Maine! Once again we invite community members to come share their talent tonight – music, poetry, comedy, a winter’s project? Doors open at 5:30 for sign-ups and the mic goes live at 6pm. Mic time limited to no more than 2 songs, or 10 minutes – with the possibility for a second round at the mic depending upon sign-ups that night.  Emcee: Eric Lowe. Dervish has received a prestigious lifetime achievement award from the BBC, a fitting tribute to the band after over 30 years of recording and performing all over the world. Described by the BBC as “an icon of Irish music”, the band have played at festivals from Rio to Glastonbury. They accompanied the Irish President on state visits to Latvia and Lithuania and Prime Minister of Ireland on a trade mission to China as Cultural Ambassadors taking time out to play an impromptu session on the Great Wall of China. Dervish have a line-up which includes some of Ireland’s finest traditional musicians, fronted by one of the country’s best-known singers, Cathy Jordan.  Please read more at our website.
