PRINTMAKING OPEN STUDIO (FRIDAY) @ Waterfall Arts Fridays, 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm EST   Start a new project or finish something you have started. Don’t let your lack of studio equipment be an obstacle! Waterfall Arts has well-furnished and staffed facilities for artists of all skill levels to drop in and work independently on their own projects. In addition to providing a workspace and tools, the studios at Waterfall Arts provide a forum for sharing ideas, developing techniques, and experimentation, as well as an opportunity for building community. Artists working in all disciplines are welcome and encouraged to get involved. Drop-in rates are $20 for a 3-hour session. Maximum 5 artists during Open Studios. About the Studio Monitor: MF Morison hails from the west coast where she was primarily known as a metalsmith, apprenticing under Stieg Gusterman (Georgetown, CO) and Thomas Schlicting (Amsterdam). Using acid etch in many processes, she continued to explore this medium, resulting in attending S.F. Art Institute, studying printmaking under the tutelage of Michi Itami. While in SF, MF also worked out of U.C. Berkeley Open Studio and Fort Mason Print Department. Upon her arrival to Midcoast Maine, MF shelved printmaking for a time until she became aware of the Waterfall Arts Printmaking Studio. Since then she has been consistently enthralled and engaged with printmaking, primarily working with copper plate intaglio etching with use of embossment and chine colle. Festivities include cookie decorating, hot cocoa, Touch-a-Truck with Owls Head Fire Department, Letters to Santa, Ukes Rock, a Grinch cartoon showing, the “Presents Down the Chimney” parachute activity, and a special visit from Santa. Join us for Comedy at The Commons — a monthly workshop where comics of all experience levels can learn, practice, and grow. Our focus is on clean comedy — humor that connects across generations and settings without leaning on off-color material. Whether you’re brand new or have been writing jokes for years, this is a place to experiment, discover your comedic voice, and get feedback from others on the journey.    What to Expect: - Fun exercises to spark joke ideas - Tools for developing your comedic persona - Time to share and workshop material - A community of comics cheering each other on  Cost: $5 per participant per workshop (helps cover space rental)  The Goal: These workshops are designed to prepare us for monthly clean comedy open mic nights in Belfast beginning January 2026. In this class students will be making up to 4 classic holiday ornaments out of birch bark. Instruction will be given on how to cut, fold and manipulate the birch bark. Ornaments will be decorated with dried flowers, or other materials the instructor has available. Students are also encouraged to bring in any embellishments (yarn, beads, dried flowers, etc) they might have at home to decorate their ornaments. About the instructor: Sandi Cirillo is a retired art teacher and fiber artist with over 25 years of teaching experience in various art forms. She is also a teaching artist in the state of Maine, working with businesses, arts organizations, and adult education programs teaching a variety of classes in drawing, fiber, and art history. Her work is displayed at Local Color Gallery in Belfast and her studio is in Searsport. She also teaches at Senior College in Belfast.

Try drawing in glass for the first time or expand your skill set if you already have experience with glass art! Create a monochromatic drawing using black glass powder on white sheet glass. Black glass powder can be applied, moved and even layered to create bold and graphic images, delicate landscapes, and intricate portraits. It can be pinched, drizzled, stamped, sifted and stenciled for different effects and distinct tonal variations. Bring your own sketch, or use the provided ones, to create a beautiful work of art to be fired in the kiln.   This class is for adults of all levels and will discuss the basics of working in glass powder. Each student will complete 1 piece to be fired in the kiln to a tack fuse, creating a permanent work of art. The unique glass drawing will be either 4x6 or 5x5 and available the following week for pick-up. An N95 mask is required during class and will be provided. This class is suitable for beginner to advanced glass artists, ages 16 and up.

When what to our wondering eyes did appear? Is it once again that wonderful time of year?? Yes! Santa will be returning to the Belfast Boathouse (34 Commercial St.) on the waterfront in Belfast! Join us Saturday, December 13th from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm for this free family event! Children will be able to make an ornament and other crafts from Cornerspring Montesorri School, holiday cookie kits from Delvino’s, enjoy holiday story time provided by Belfast Free Library, a horse drawn family wagon ride from S&S Carriage Rides, Belfast Parks & Recreation returns this year with pine bow decorations for children to take home, and don’t forget the hot chocolate provided by Waldo Community Action Partners! And with another successful book drive last season, we are going to do it again! You can donate new or almost new books the whole month of November, and early December, at the Visitors Center at 33 Main Street in Belfast. Visiting children will be able to select a book the day of the event!
