This month we will practice rhythms and grooves using all kinds of percussion instruments and our own bodies while we listen to Pharrell Williams’ joyous song “Happy”. We will also enjoy Amanda Pratt’s whimsical photographs as we read Happy, the book based on the song. As always, children will meet professional musicians, dance, sing, and do a multitude of musical activities. Ages 3 to 11. Registration is required; space is limited.

Tuesday Afternoon Market Resumes  The Red Stick Farmers Market is reviving its seasonal, Tuesday market at the EBR Main Library with its popular afternoon hours and a fresh atmosphere.  The Red Stick Farmers Market will host a group of farmers and food artisans this Tuesday from 3:00-6:00 pm at the Main Library on Goodwood Blvd, weather permitting. Vendors will set up in the public plaza in front of the library, which boasts shaded walkways, water features, seating, and a large LED screen. Guests can shop for local fruits and vegetables, honey, gelato, prepared foods, jams, jellies, and more while visiting the library or BREC’s Independence Community Park and Botanic Gardens. This meeting of crocheters and knitters will get to work on projects to benefit those in need, which will include hats for premature babies, hats for cancer patients, waterproof sleeping mats for the homeless, and “knitted knockers,” which are soft comfortable prosthesis alternatives for breast cancer survivors. Patterns and some supplies will be provided, though participants are encouraged to bring their own knitting needles and crochet hooks. (Knitting needles DPN or circular size 4, crochet hook size 4.5 or G7) Want to help but don’t know how to knit? No problem! Come stuff the knockers with filler or make “plarn” from shopping bags for sleeping mats.
