2nd Saturday Bird Walk

Bring your binoculars and discover the birds that visit and live in Chisholm Creek Park. No birding experience is needed. Expect 1–2 miles of walking on paved paths. The walk will last about 90 minutes. Meet at the Great Plains Nature Center parking lot

The Importance of Birding to Wildlife Conservation by Destiny Flemons. Destiny Flemons is Wichita’s new Farm Bill Wildlife Biologist for Pheasants and Quail. Her birding journey grew exponentially after taking Ornithology at her Alma Mater, Mississippi State University. She continues to network with communities and stakeholders hoping to bridge the gap between humans and wildlife. Destiny’s passion is to stand with other BIPOC (Black Peoples, Indigenous Peoples, People of Color) individuals to show youth that we exist and its possible to achieve their dreams in the outdoor world. Programs will not be live-streamed this year, but you can see recordings after the live program on Youtube.

Meet at 7:15 a.m. at Brahm’s in Newton to carpool or 7:45 a.m.at the dam lookout parking lot. Trip will start with looking at thousands of Franklin’s gulls and trying to pick out the odd gulls. Then we will move to several campgrounds and wildllfe areas including the north end causeway and broken bridge. We will look for winter sparrows, warblers and other migrants. We may go by Florence Crystal Spring and/or Preheim Pond. Bring a lunch, water and snacks.
