Petals & Patterns In collaboration with Lush Layers, an exhibition by artist Jess Quinn Supported by Central Gardens of North Iowa, Katie Casey Designs, and The Red Geranium Hosted at the Clear Lake Arts Center May 29 – June 27, 2026 Join us for a month-long celebration of art and nature with Petals & Patterns. Located in the Hanson Gallery, Lush Layers by Jess Quinn features large-scale floral oil paintings that explore depth, movement, and the quiet strength found in the natural world. Built through rich layers of blended paint, each work invites viewers to slow down, look closer, and experience the beauty within the details. Inspired by the Minneapolis Institute of Art’s Art in Bloom, this exhibition is paired with fresh floral and foliage arrangements that echo the intention and spirit of the artwork. A collaborative display featuring select arrangements from all participating partners. This event is free and open to the public. It is essentially artwork that is inspired by and/or includes Zentangle pattern drawing and is representational, not abstract or unplanned. Join us for Delft Delights. A 2 ½ hour ZIA class where we’ll lean a bit about the Dutch town of Delft and its blue & white earthenware. This class was created by Marguerite Samama, a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT) from Amsterdam, Netherlands. We’ll draw on a 3-1/2 in square tile, and on a Zendala tile. Zendala tiles are round, and we’ll use them to create plates with beautiful blue tangles, or patterns. this class is for everyone! The NIACC Youth Entrepreneurial Academy (YEA) is a unique opportunity for North Iowa high school students to learn about entrepreneurship and becoming a boss. Students will transform ideas and passions into a viable business plan. In 2026, YEA will be a hybrid-model, two-week experience incorporating two in-person sessions, online classroom, and virtual meetings, designed to work around the lives of today's busy teens. Students will attend in-person one day per week at the location of their choice. YEA culminates with a Pitch Night Competition on Tuesday June 30, 2026 where every student has the opportunity to win seed money for their business idea. YEA is free to participants thanks of the generous financial support from the John K. and Luise V. Hanson Foundation. Every participant will also receive a $500 NIACC scholarship.

But when a detective arrives with the news that her best friend has been murdered, Hana knows that something evil has come for her, a dark remnant of the past she and her friend had shared. Join us for a viewing party of an hour-long webinar with the All Iowa Reads author, Allen Esken! He will discuss his book, The Quiet Librarian, the writing process, and answer questions from the audience. The book will also be discussed at Book Chat at 12:00 p.m. on June 16 and at Books on Tap at Lake Time Brewery at 6:00 p.m. on June 10. Established in 2003, the purpose of All Iowa Reads is to foster a sense of unity through reading. Iowans are encouraged to come together in their communities to read and talk about a single book title in the same calendar year. All Iowa Reads consists of three programs, each with one title chosen per year: adults, teens ages 13-18, and kids ages 8-12. The program is administered by the State Library of Iowa.

Located in the Hanson Gallery, Lush Layers by Jess Quinn features large-scale floral oil paintings that explore depth, movement, and the quiet strength found in the natural world. Built through rich layers of blended paint, each work invites viewers to slow down, look closer, and experience the beauty within the details. Inspired by the Minneapolis Institute of Art’s Art in Bloom, this exhibition is paired with fresh floral and foliage arrangements that echo the intention and spirit of the artwork. Kids of all ages are invited to enjoy another exciting Friday in the Bee Happy Discovery Garden, filled with hands-on activities, outdoor exploration, and unique garden experiences in partnership with community collaborators. Each week offers families the opportunity to learn, create, and connect in a fun and welcoming outdoor setting. This week features a creative craft activity with the Clear Lake Public Library, offering a hands-on experience designed to encourage creativity and fun for participants of all ages. In addition, ISU Extension will be on-site with a focus on 4-H and local clubs, in conjunction with their meeting being hosted at the gardens. This programming provides opportunities to learn more about youth development, leadership, and community involvement. Visitors are encouraged to explore the Bee Happy Discovery Garden throughout the morning and enjoy all of the seasonal experiences available, from garden exploration to interactive activities and community engagement.
