Christmas Bird Count Kosciusko County   Saturday, December 27 2025, dawn to dusk Tippecanoe Audubon Society will contribute to National Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count. In its 125th year, this is the longest running citizen science project in the world. The area of our count is a 7.5-mile radius circle in Kosciusko County, centered on Oswego (north of Warsaw). Most counting is done by moving around the area by car or on foot. You need not go out for the full day, even part of a day contributes to the effort. It is also possible to count birds at a feeder from the comfort of home if you live within the count circle. Participation is free and open to anyone who is interested, but you must coordinate in advance with the compiler: Dave Hicks at (260) 982-2471, [email protected]

Each summer, staff and volunteers at Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College arrive before dawn to participate in research about the songbirds living and nesting at Merry Lea. Join us to learn about how and why this research is being done. Though we can’t bring any live birds, you will have the chance to see and handle some of the equipment that is regularly used as well as see many examples of the kinds of birds we work with.

This trail traverses wetlands on a boardwalk and then passes along the shore of Pike Lake.  Total length of the boardwalk and trail is about a mile.  We will hope for waterfowl and Bald Eagles on the lake. Parking is on Provident Drive in Warsaw.  For GPS, the nearest street address is MedStat Warsaw, at 1500 Provident Drive.  From US 30 near Culver’s, turn southwest on Dubois Drive, then right on Provident, and go past Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital to the trailhead parking area.
