    Sue & Andy Arnold Jean Bargeron                   Exhibition: April 13 - May 23   The Juried Art Exhibition helps promote the creation and recognition of original paintings and ceramic arts. This year's juror Brian Byrn, Director and curator at the Midwest Museum of American Art, brought an expert eye to this year's selection, helping to ensure the highest standards and integrity.   171 applicants from Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Tennessee, Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, Maryland, and California submitted work for consideration. 100 works by 97 artists will be exhibited. Because of high competition just 24% of the pieces were selected of the 416 submitted.

Chesterton Branding and Leadership Corporation (CBLC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting a vibrant, thriving Chesterton community while preserving and enhancing the historical charm of the town through branding, marketing, and placemaking. CBLC is pleased to announce the launch of Chesterton Third Fridays, with the inaugural event kicking off on Friday, May 17th and continuing monthly through October 17th, 2024.   Participating venues and retailers will offer extended shopping hours for each Third Friday event, from 4PM and lasting into the evening.   CBLC is launching the Chesterton Third Fridays initiative in partnership with twenty-three retail businesses, restaurants, and non-profit organizations located throughout downtown Chesterton. Chesterton Third Fridays will run from May through October over six special evenings, and local businesses will be offering downtown visitors an array of activities, including: Evening shopping and sidewalk sales Gallery receptions Live music outdoors and in various venues Dining and drink specials from participating establishments Live art events and demonstrations Historical walking tours and other special programs The first Third Friday of the 2024 season kicks off on Friday, May 17th with exciting activities. The Chesterton Art Center will host a reception for two new exhibitions: Birds of the Hudson, Block Prints by Stephen Rengstorf and Prairies Big and Small, Photographs by Susan Kirt. Other offerings include a free community canvas project at Willow, making a sparkling bird suncatcher at Red Cup Café with Pieces of Jayde, live music by local artist Neil Allesee from 7-9 pm at 219 Taproom, a build-a-necklace jewelry bar at Chelle's, a specially designed reusable tote (free with Third Friday purchases) at Nottingham Embroidery, make your own bath salts at Waxi Taxi,  Olivezia wine and oil tastings, and much more. Chesterton Third Friday partners include includes Chelle's Boutique and Garage, The IN Coast, Willow, Westchester History Museum, Holly Jackson Studio and Gallery, South Shore Tattoo, Red Cup Café, Cheers, Waxi Taxi, Shades of Rose Boutique, Three Wicked Apples, Sage, Tethan's Candy and Confections, Nottingham Embroidery, Make Make Pop Up Art Truck, 219 Tap Room, Trusty Spot Records and Tees, and Riley's Railhouse, as well as Chesterton Art Center, Three Moons Fiberworks, Pieces of Jayde, and Duneland Pottery. Driving for Duneland Duneland Chamber Annual Golf Outing Join the Duneland Chamber for a day on the course. Golfers can enjoy the beautiful Sand Creek Country club at this annual golf scramble benefiting the chamber, a 501(c)(6) organization. Registration will begin at 8:30 am, and a shotgun start is at 10:00 am. Golfers get to participate in an eighteen-hole scramble. At 2:30 pm, guests will enjoy after-play dinner and drinks. Ticket price includes golf, on-course beer cart, dinner, and on-course snacks. Sponsorship opportunities are available, including four options that offer exclusive sponsorship of event activities. Professor Bob Wichlinski will present free a workshop on ethics and artificial intelligence (A/I). Bob’s presentation will include a thoughtful examination of our relationships with our mobile computing devices.  Attendees will also complete a personal philosophic assessment.  Genuity, authenticity, identity, privacy, fidelity and integrity will be among the concepts Bob will consider in his presentation.    Bob has taught ethics in information technology at Valparaiso University for a decade. Previously,  Bob taught for 7 years at Purdue University. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and a Master’s degree in Ethics.  He is presently completing his Doctoral work in Ethics in Leadership.   Bob also serves as President & CEO of ON-SITE Computer, LLC; an IT services firm he founded in 1992. He is a gubernatorial appointee to the Indiana Executive Council on Cyber Security and is among the 120 Certified Public Managers (CPMÒ) in the State of Indiana.

We're located two miles south of the Indiana Dunes at Lake Michigan, and our Market is easily accessible from Interstate 94 to exit 26A or via the 80/90 Toll Road to exit 31. Birds of the Hudson: Block Prints by Stephen Rengstorf (upper gallery) This exhibition organized by the Estate of Stephen Rengstorf features woodcut and linoleum block prints created by Rengstorf, celebrating his love of raptors and the outdoors. “I create images that offer the viewer a glimpse into the daily odyssey of birds in the environment this great river provides, “ said Rengstorf of the place he called home, New York’s Hudson River Valley. Prairies Big and Small: Photographs by Susan Kirt (lower gallery) Prairies Big and Small immerses the viewer in the rare and endangered Tallgrass Prairie ecosystem and the fragments of this once vast landscape. Kirt’s exceptional photographs connect people with the diverse prairie plants and animals found in the patchwork of the Chicago region’s grasslands, both in remnants and planted reconstructions. CAC is also presenting a satellite exhibit of Kirt’s prairie photographs May 2 – July 31 at the Das Gallery located at Country Inn & Suites, 2020 LaPorte Avenue in Valparaiso. A reception will be held on Thursday June 20, 4:30 – 6:30PM.
