Join us for First Chapter Fridays! We will read the first few chapters of a different book every month and then do fun activities based on that book! Participants will have an opportunity to check out the book or place a hold on it at the end of the Program. This month's book is "Odd and the Frost Giants" by Neil Gaiman. Odd, a young Viking boy, is left fatherless following a raid. In his icy, ancient world there is no mercy for an unlucky soul with a crushed foot and no one to protect him. Fleeing to the woods, Odd stumbles upon and releases a trapped bear…and then Odd's destiny begins to change. The eagle, bear, and fox that Odd encounters are Norse gods, trapped in animal form by the evil frost giant who has conquered Asgard, the city of the gods. Now our hero must reclaim Thor's hammer, outwit the frost giants and release the gods…

Join us for Young Hoosier Book Club for grades 3-5! Every month, we will meet and discuss one of the Young Hoosier Intermediate Nominated books. Each month, we will rate the book on a scale from 1-5. In April, we will submit our ratings to the Young Hoosier Book Club Award Committee. This month's book is "Once Upon a Tim" by a Stuart Gibbs. Tim is just a peasant, but he dreams big. He wants more out of life than to grow up to be a woodsman like his father. Unfortunately, the only route to success in the kingdom of Wyld is to be born a prince. Still, Tim is determined. He is brave and clever and always tries to do the right thing—even though he rarely gets the credit for it.Then news spreads that Princess Grace of the neighboring kingdom has been abducted by the evil Stinx and Prince Ruprecht needs a legion of knights to join him on his quest to rescue her. Tim finally has the lucky break he’s been waiting for, the opportunity to change his station in life. And even though he doesn’t know how to ride a horse or wield anything more deadly than a water bucket, he’s going to do whatever it takes to make sure his dream becomes a reality.

Kids ages 5 to 11 can bring along a favorite book and read to some of the BEST listeners around:  The therapy pets from Love on a Leash!Advance registration is required.  Kids must check in at the Children's Desk the evening of the event and sign up for a 20-minute time slot.  Kids will then have the opportunity to spend a few minutes reading with each of the dogs while also learning a little about their history and what therapy dogs do.
