Solstice & Gourd Parade! For the final meeting of the year, the SD Creators--our art and creativity group--is hosting a Winter Solstice celebration from 2-4 pm on Sunday, December 21st. This social event will kick off with a "gourd parade," where members can share what they made with the bottle gourds they received last winter. For those who weren't able to participate in that project, other crafts can be shared instead. Warm beverages will be served around the fire as we start the second half of the event, the lantern walk. During our Summer Solstice festival, our community wove a large sun out of sticks and fabric scraps. That "sun" made during the longest day of the year will be used to start the fire that will light our lanterns on the shortest day of the year. We'll then spread that light with a group walk that will hopefully spark our creativity as we move into hibernation season. We will have some extra lanterns on hand, but we suggest people bring their own or use their creativity to make one! Since this will be an outdoor event, please dress appropriately for the weather. Like all SD outdoor events, if the weather is below 20 degrees that day, we will automatically cancel the outdoor portion or reschedule. Updated details will be listed on our calendar.
