Drop off your gently used Halloween costumes at any service desk during Library hours, Monday 9/21 through Friday 9/25. On Saturday, 10/3, return to pick a "new" costume to wear this year! If you drop off a costume, you will receive a ticket which allows you early bird entry to the swap. Early bird swap browsing is from 1-2 PM. Patrons who did not drop a costume, can still come select a costume anytime from 2-4 PM on 10/3.Costumes must be gently used and in good condition, with no rips, tears, stains, or strong odors. Footwear of any kind is not accepted. Costume guns of any kind are not accepted. Other costume specific weapons integral to the costume are allowed. While supplies last, and sizes are not guaranteed. Please be advised that you may not find something you like or want from the available selection, so please be prepared for the possibility of donating to the swap and not leaving with another costume. This program is for all ages.

We're partnering with the Forest Preserves of Cook County! Kayak on Thatcher Glen Pond at the Trailside Museum with members of the Children's staff! Children 5 and up and their adult can join us on the pond in a tandem kayak! Trips are estimated to be 1-2 hours. Personal flotation devices and equipment are included. We will go over paddling and safety before getting on the water. Registration is required and can only be done in person at the Children's Desk. This program is for children with an accompanying grownup. In order to participate waivers must be signed at time of registration and at least 5 days in advance of event. You will not be able to participate otherwise. A waiver is required for each participant. Please also view the attached clothing recommendations.

First, a team from the Oak Park Township will talk about Medicare open enrollment. Then, in honor of "Mystery Month" at the Library—a monthlong series of programs and events related to the mystery genre—a librarian will talk about some great mystery/crime authors and books to know about. October is Mystery Month at the Library! All month long, we're offering programs and events for adults related to this wickedly enjoyable genre. Participate in a mystery book discussion, come to a mystery movie series, attend a murder mystery party—and more!As part of Mystery Month, the Library will screen a mystery movie each Monday evening in October. This Monday's film is The Last of Sheila, a 1973 whodunit set on a cruise ship. Roger Ebert called it "a devilishly complicated thriller of superior class... comes out of a grand tradition of murder puzzles from such [writers] as Agatha Christie and John Dickson Carr." This film was co-written by Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim, and has been cited as a major influence by Knives Out director Rian Johnson.
