Have you ever wanted a way to let people see your creativity, express your thought? This three-part workshop will teach you how to make your own zines and chapbooks; providing examples of various types of style, construction, and content you can focus on as a creator; and, how technology can assist with self-publishing endeavors.The first workshop on September 2 will discuss what can be done with zines/chapbooks from a historical, political, philosophical, and literary perspective. Patrons will also begin the brainstorming process for their own zine/chapbook. For the second part of the workshop on September 9, participants will walk away with the beginnings of a zine (or a complete one if they work quickly!) in either digital or traditional form, and a greater understanding of how they can express themselves creatively and/or affect change through self-publishing. For the last workshop on September 16, participants will share their creations with each other. Additionally, patrons will learn about how to create multiple prints of their zines using the library's scanners and printers.Registration for the second and third workshop will open after the first workshop has ended and will be limited to those who attended the first workshop.The Makery is located on the third floor of the Main Library.

Have you ever wanted a way to let people see your creativity, express your thought? This three-part workshop will teach you how to make your own zines and chapbooks; providing examples of various types of style, construction, and content you can focus on as a creator; and, how technology can assist with self-publishing endeavors.The first workshop on September 2 will discuss what can be done with zines/chapbooks from a historical, political, philosophical, and literary perspective. Patrons will also begin the brainstorming process for their own zine/chapbook. For the second part of the workshop on September 9, participants will walk away with the beginnings of a zine (or a complete one if they work quickly!) in either digital or traditional form, and a greater understanding of how they can express themselves creatively and/or affect change through self-publishing. For the last workshop on September 16, participants will share their creations with each other. Additionally, patrons will learn about how to create multiple prints of their zines using the library's scanners and printers.Registration for the second and third workshop will open after the first workshop has ended and will be limited to those who attended the first workshop.The Makery is located on the third floor of the Main Library.

Poulin, Jr. prize; Dulce (Northwestern University Press), winner of the Drinking Gourd Prize; and, most recently, he is the co-editor of the anthology Here to Stay: Poetry and Prose from the Undocumented Diaspora (Harper Perennial). He is the 2025 guest editor of the Michigan Quarterly Review and has also curated the Academy of American Poetâs Poem-A-Day Series.His work has been long listed for the California Book Award, the Foreword Indies Prize, and the Lambda Literary Award, among other recognitions. He was the first undocumented student to graduate from the Helen Zell Writers Program at the University of Michigan and co-founded the Undocupoets, which eliminated citizenship requirements from all major poetry book prizes in the U.S., and for which he was recognized with the Barnes and Noble Writers for Writers award.He currently serves as faculty in the MFA program at St. Maryâs College of California and at Ashland Universityâs Low-Res MFA program.
