We kick things off with a double feature of Looking for Langston from 1989 and The Watermelon Woman from 1996. These films helped make space for Black queerness in cinema when those stories were rarely seen. Looking for Langston is a poetic reflection on Black gay desire, memory, and loss shaped by the early AIDS crisis. The Watermelon Woman blends humor with sharp cultural critique, challenging the erasure of Black lesbian lives from film history and reclaiming the power of telling your own story. A short post film analysis for The Watermelon Woman will be provided by The Criterion Collection.Rated PG-13. Approximate runtime is 2.5 hours.Snacks and beverages will be provided, or feel free to bring your own.All screenings are free and open to all.Come spend two evenings with us watching films, reflecting together, and building community as we celebrate Black queer histories, stories, and futures.

Overview Join us for a night of exploring and celebrating the intersection of queerness and faith with The Many at Queering Faith 9.0! Queering Faith 9.0 with The Many Come join us for an evening of music, reflection, and community at Community United Church of Christ in Champaign, IL, USA, brought to you by UCC Campus Ministry at UIUC. The Many will lead us in a celebration of faith and inclusivity. Let's come together to explore how our diverse identities intersect with our spirituality through music. All are welcome to this event that celebrates the beauty of being true to oneself. About the Event In a world where trans and queer individuals are too often met with hostility in the name of religion, UCC Campus Ministry and Community United Church of Christ are creating a sanctuary for peace, love, and reconciliation. Join us for the 9th annual Queering Faith event, this year, featuring The Manyâa creative collective making music and new kinds of inclusive, justice-building gatherings that offer space for faith and doubt, lament and gratitude. The feet-on-the-ground, heart-in-hands songs and liturgies they create remind us we arenât alone. And they help us find the courage to authentically love God, ourselves, and everyone in this whole, aching world. Event Highlights: Keynote Performance: The Many Q&A Session: Engage with The Many and explore your own questions about faith and identity. Visit Community Partners' tables in the Fellowship Hall during intermission. Why Attend? If youâve ever felt excluded or harmed by religion because of your identity, this event is an opportunity to experience an affirming community that celebrates you as a beloved child of God.
