Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will conduct a FREE, 4- hour, kayak tour with a ranger on Saturday, June 13, at 8:30 am. National Park Partners, the park’s friend’s group, will sponsor this event where participants will paddle the waters of West Chickamauga Creek from Dalton’s Ford to Reed’s Bridge to learn about the Confederate Army’s crossings of the creek during the Battle of Chickamauga. The following reservation and paddler requirements must be met prior to tour participation. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED:Recreational kayaks will be provided by Outdoor Chattanooga. Directions to the launch site will be provided with a reservation confirmation. National Park Service signs will also be placed to assist participants in finding the launch location. To make a reservation, please visit Outdoor Chattanooga’s online catalog at https://chattanooga.perfectmind.com/.../CoursesLandingPag... or call 423-643-6888. PADDLER REQUIREMENTSParticipants must be at least 15 years of age or olderParticipants must know how to swim. Outdoor Chattanooga and the National Park Service reserve the right to cancel a trip at any time at their discretion, due to weather or water conditions. Participants will be notified as soon as possible if there is a cancellation. There is no rain date for this event. If you must cancel your reservation for any reason, please try to do so with a minimum of 24 hours’ notice. Please call between the hours of 8 am – 5 pm, Monday – Friday to cancel a reservation.

On Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 11:00 am, 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will conduct artillery firing demonstrations, each lasting approximately 45 minutes. Havis’ Georgia Battery officially belonged to Robertson’s Reserve Artillery. However, when the Confederate Army of Tennessee took the field, Havis’ Battery usually found the front. September 20, 1863, witnessed the battery plunging headfirst into the Battle of Chickamauga at Poe Farm. One artillerist quipped, “the reason we are called reserve artillery is because we are never in reserve.” Please join us at Tour Stop 3 to learn more about this impressive story. Parking will be along Poe Road and it is recommended that you bring your own lawn chairs and wear comfortable attire.
