Starting with a state- wide perspective, it then brings the focus to Palm Beach County and the surrounding region. Saving Wild Florida: Conservation on a Coastal Barrier Island – Strategies to Protect and ConserveApril 4, 2024 – 6:00 pmSarah Martin Kittredge, South Florida Land Conservation Manager, The Nature ConservancyWith Cristine Krasco, Blowing Rocks Preserve Manager, The Nature Conservancy in Florida Sarah Martin Kittredge is The Nature Conservancy’s South Florida Land Conservation Manager based out of TNC’s Blowing Rocks Preserve located on Jupiter Island, Florida. Sarah graduated from Seattle University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies and French. She also completed graduate coursework and a horticultural certificate program at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning and obtained a certificate in Market Gardening at Sterling College in Craftsbury, Vermont. Sarah has more than 20 years of experience working in the field of natural resource management and conservation. Today with The Nature Conservancy, Sarah manages conservation lands in South Florida including the landscape of TNC’s Blowing Rocks Preserve and other key conservation sites across the region. Cristin Krasco is The Nature Conservancy’s Blowing Rocks Preserve Manager. Cristin earned her Bachelor’s degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Arizona and Master’s degree in Science Education from Oregon State University. Cristin spent her early career teaching outdoor and environmental education in coastal areas including Washington State, the Georgia coast, and Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Cristin moved to Southeast Florida in 2006 after accepting a position as a Marine Science Instructor at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution in Fort Pierce, and went on to work as Education Specialist and Volunteer Coordinator for the Smithsonian Marine Station at Fort Pierce, a branch of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History. In her current role, Cristin is responsible for overseeing facilities management, developing the Preserve’s education and outreach programs, and working with local partners on strategic projects. She works closely with TNC’s land and marine conservation staff in South Florida to maintain Blowing Rock Preserve’s ecological values while enhancing TNC’s conservation impact in the surrounding communities.
