Vero Beach Museum of Art Celebrates Our Nation’s 250th Year with American Made: Paintings and Sculpture from the DeMell Jacobsen Collection Masterpieces by many of our country’s most important artists on view January 31–June 7, 2026 VERO BEACH, FL—In anticipation of our nation’s semi quincentennial, the Vero Beach Museum of Art (VBMA) is delighted to present American Made: Paintings and Sculpture from the DeMell Jacobsen Collection, an exhibition of more than 80 works by renowned American artists, including Benjamin West, Sarah Miriam Peale, Edward Moran, John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt, Robert Henri, and Charles Alston. The exhibition will be on view from Saturday, January 31, through Sunday, June 7, 2026. Spanning 250 years, with an emphasis on the 19th and 20th centuries, the works in this exhibition, drawn entirely from the rich holdings of the DeMell Jacobsen Collection, highlight masterpieces of painting and sculpture by many of this country’s most important artists. While American Made includes eighty-five examples of painting and sculpture, the Collection as a whole currently includes more than three hundred works of art and continues to grow. It was put together by Dr. Diane DeMell Jacobsen and her late husband, Thomas Jacobsen. The American Made exhibition is organized into eight thematic sections that demonstrate how American artists from the colonial era to the 20th century supported the nation's growth and progress. Museum guests will discover: • Colonial-era portraits by masters, such as Benjamin West, Thomas Sully, and Rembrandt Peale; • Late 19th- and early 20th-century depictions of colonies and destinations by artists including Marsden Hartley, Leon Kroll, and John Sloan; • Mid-19th-century landscape painting depicting the United States from the mountains to the sea by artists such as Asher B. Durand, Jasper Francis Copsey, and William Bradford; • Still life paintings illuminating nature’s bounty by John Francis, Charles Ethan Porter, and Elizabeth Williams, and trompe l’oeil (French for “fool the eye”) still lifes by masters, including William Michael Harnett, John Haberle, and John Peto; • Genre scenes depicting everyday American life, including masterpieces by Elizabeth Jane Gardner Bouguereau, Seymour Guy, and Daniel Huntington; • The late 19th-century origins of American Modernism through works of artists such as Childe Hassam, William Merritt Chase, and Edwin Lord Weeks, who lived or spent considerable time studying abroad; • Examples of early 20th-century Modernism and mid-20th-century Abstract Expressionist style from Max Weber, John Marin, Charmion von Wiegand, and others; • Works depicting post-1930 urban and rural life by artists including Paul Kelpe, Molly Luce, and Walt Kuhn; and • A selection of 19th and 20th-century sculptures by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Frederick William MacMonnies, Elizabeth Catlett, and others. Vero Beach Museum of Art Celebrates Our Nation’s 250th Year with American Made: Paintings and Sculpture from the DeMell Jacobsen Collection Masterpieces by many of our country’s most important artists on view January 31–June 7, 2026 VERO BEACH, FL—In anticipation of our nation’s semi quincentennial, the Vero Beach Museum of Art (VBMA) is delighted to present American Made: Paintings and Sculpture from the DeMell Jacobsen Collection, an exhibition of more than 80 works by renowned American artists, including Benjamin West, Sarah Miriam Peale, Edward Moran, John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt, Robert Henri, and Charles Alston. The exhibition will be on view from Saturday, January 31, through Sunday, June 7, 2026. Spanning 250 years, with an emphasis on the 19th and 20th centuries, the works in this exhibition, drawn entirely from the rich holdings of the DeMell Jacobsen Collection, highlight masterpieces of painting and sculpture by many of this country’s most important artists. While American Made includes eighty-five examples of painting and sculpture, the Collection as a whole currently includes more than three hundred works of art and continues to grow. It was put together by Dr. Diane DeMell Jacobsen and her late husband, Thomas Jacobsen. The American Made exhibition is organized into eight thematic sections that demonstrate how American artists from the colonial era to the 20th century supported the nation's growth and progress. Museum guests will discover: • Colonial-era portraits by masters, such as Benjamin West, Thomas Sully, and Rembrandt Peale; • Late 19th- and early 20th-century depictions of colonies and destinations by artists including Marsden Hartley, Leon Kroll, and John Sloan; • Mid-19th-century landscape painting depicting the United States from the mountains to the sea by artists such as Asher B. Durand, Jasper Francis Copsey, and William Bradford; • Still life paintings illuminating nature’s bounty by John Francis, Charles Ethan Porter, and Elizabeth Williams, and trompe l’oeil (French for “fool the eye”) still lifes by masters, including William Michael Harnett, John Haberle, and John Peto; • Genre scenes depicting everyday American life, including masterpieces by Elizabeth Jane Gardner Bouguereau, Seymour Guy, and Daniel Huntington; • The late 19th-century origins of American Modernism through works of artists such as Childe Hassam, William Merritt Chase, and Edwin Lord Weeks, who lived or spent considerable time studying abroad; • Examples of early 20th-century Modernism and mid-20th-century Abstract Expressionist style from Max Weber, John Marin, Charmion von Wiegand, and others; • Works depicting post-1930 urban and rural life by artists including Paul Kelpe, Molly Luce, and Walt Kuhn; and • A selection of 19th and 20th-century sculptures by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Frederick William MacMonnies, Elizabeth Catlett, and others. Vero Beach Museum of Art Celebrates Our Nation’s 250th Year with American Made: Paintings and Sculpture from the DeMell Jacobsen Collection Masterpieces by many of our country’s most important artists on view January 31–June 7, 2026 VERO BEACH, FL—In anticipation of our nation’s semi quincentennial, the Vero Beach Museum of Art (VBMA) is delighted to present American Made: Paintings and Sculpture from the DeMell Jacobsen Collection, an exhibition of more than 80 works by renowned American artists, including Benjamin West, Sarah Miriam Peale, Edward Moran, John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt, Robert Henri, and Charles Alston. The exhibition will be on view from Saturday, January 31, through Sunday, June 7, 2026. Spanning 250 years, with an emphasis on the 19th and 20th centuries, the works in this exhibition, drawn entirely from the rich holdings of the DeMell Jacobsen Collection, highlight masterpieces of painting and sculpture by many of this country’s most important artists. While American Made includes eighty-five examples of painting and sculpture, the Collection as a whole currently includes more than three hundred works of art and continues to grow. It was put together by Dr. Diane DeMell Jacobsen and her late husband, Thomas Jacobsen. The American Made exhibition is organized into eight thematic sections that demonstrate how American artists from the colonial era to the 20th century supported the nation's growth and progress. Museum guests will discover: • Colonial-era portraits by masters, such as Benjamin West, Thomas Sully, and Rembrandt Peale; • Late 19th- and early 20th-century depictions of colonies and destinations by artists including Marsden Hartley, Leon Kroll, and John Sloan; • Mid-19th-century landscape painting depicting the United States from the mountains to the sea by artists such as Asher B. Durand, Jasper Francis Copsey, and William Bradford; • Still life paintings illuminating nature’s bounty by John Francis, Charles Ethan Porter, and Elizabeth Williams, and trompe l’oeil (French for “fool the eye”) still lifes by masters, including William Michael Harnett, John Haberle, and John Peto; • Genre scenes depicting everyday American life, including masterpieces by Elizabeth Jane Gardner Bouguereau, Seymour Guy, and Daniel Huntington; • The late 19th-century origins of American Modernism through works of artists such as Childe Hassam, William Merritt Chase, and Edwin Lord Weeks, who lived or spent considerable time studying abroad; • Examples of early 20th-century Modernism and mid-20th-century Abstract Expressionist style from Max Weber, John Marin, Charmion von Wiegand, and others; • Works depicting post-1930 urban and rural life by artists including Paul Kelpe, Molly Luce, and Walt Kuhn; and • A selection of 19th and 20th-century sculptures by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Frederick William MacMonnies, Elizabeth Catlett, and others. For 50 years, Charlie Musselwhite has toured, performed, and recorded. He is living proof that great music only gets better with age: he is a 33-time Blues Music Award winner, many-times Living Blues Award winner, 13-time Grammy nominee, 2014 Grammy winner for Get Up with Ben Harper, and 2019 Grammy nominee for No Mercy in this Land, also with Ben Harper. In 2020, he joined with his friend Elvin Bishop and released the Grammy-nominated, Blues Music Award-winning 100 Years of Blues. It debuted at Number One on the Billboard Blues Chart and Downbeat named it the Best Blues Album of the Year. In addition to his own albums, Musselwhite has been featured on recordings by Tom Waits, Eddy Vedder, John Lee Hooker, Bonnie Raitt, The Blind Boys of Alabama, and Cyndi Lauper. He was inducted into the Blues Foundation’s Blues Hall of Fame in 2010. Joining Charlie at The Lyric Theatre is four-time Grammy nominated artist, Bob Welsh. Hailing from Covington, La., Bob moved to the Bay Area in his late teens, where he’s been part of the roots music scene for twenty-five years. He started out in the Rusty Zinn band, and from there has backed up & toured with multiple luminaries all over the world, including Charlie Musselwhite, Kim Wilson, John Nemeth, Mark Hummel, Eric Lindell, Ren Geisick, Aireene Espiritu, Roy Gaines, Snooky Pryor, Pinetop Perkins, Billy Boy Arnold, Lazy Lester, James Harman, James Cotton, Aki Kumar and many others. Charlie Musselwhite’s story is a classic blues song come to life. Born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, he was raised by a single mother who moved the family to Memphis when he was a child. He grew up surrounded by blues, hillbilly, and gospel music that he heard on the radio or from neighborhood musicians. As a teen, he worked as a ditch digger, concrete layer, and moonshine runner. Fascinated by the blues, Charlie Musselwhite began playing the guitar and harmonica. He crossed paths with local musicians including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Johnny Burnette, but the musicians he sought out were veteran Memphis bluesmen like Furry Lewis, Will Shade, and Gus Cannon. In the early 1960s, Charlie Musselwhite moved to Chicago, looking for better-paying work. While driving an exterminator’s truck by day, he hung out in the city’s South Side blues clubs at night. He befriended blues harmonica player Big Walter Horton and became especially close to venerated country bluesman Big Joe Williams. His other friends included blues icons Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson, and Howlin’ Wolf, and he soaked up licks, lyrics, and life lessons whenever he could. Before long, he was sitting in clubs with Muddy Waters and Jimmy Reed, building an impressive word-of-mouth reputation. In 1966, at the age of 22, he recorded the landmark Stand Back! to rave reviews. In 1967, he moved to San Francisco, where his album was being played on underground radio. He was welcomed into the counterculture scene around the Fillmore West as someone who played the “real deal” blues. Now, Musselwhite has released Mississippi Son, an album that takes him full circle, back to Mississippi from all the points in between. It is a compilation of the wisdom and lessons he’s learned through his decades of worldwide touring. “Blues tells the truth in a world that’s full of lies,” he says in “Blues Gave Me a Ride.” Through his evocative vocals, masterful harmonica playing, and note-perfect country blues guitar, Charlie Musselwhite delivers “blues’ honest truth.” Charlie Musselwhite, more than any other harmonica player of his generation, can rightfully lay claim to inheriting the mantle of the great harp players who came before. In an era when the term legendary gets applied to auto-tuned pop stars, this singular blues harp player, singer, songwriter, and guitarist has earned and deserves to be honored as a true master of American classic vernacular music. He is at the top of his game, a revered elder statesman of the blues, nowhere near ready to hang up his harps. His depth of expression as a singer and an instrumentalist is unparalleled and only growing deeper. Without American music, there is no Charlie Musselwhite. Vero Beach Museum of Art Celebrates Our Nation’s 250th Year with American Made: Paintings and Sculpture from the DeMell Jacobsen Collection Masterpieces by many of our country’s most important artists on view January 31–June 7, 2026 VERO BEACH, FL—In anticipation of our nation’s semi quincentennial, the Vero Beach Museum of Art (VBMA) is delighted to present American Made: Paintings and Sculpture from the DeMell Jacobsen Collection, an exhibition of more than 80 works by renowned American artists, including Benjamin West, Sarah Miriam Peale, Edward Moran, John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt, Robert Henri, and Charles Alston. The exhibition will be on view from Saturday, January 31, through Sunday, June 7, 2026. Spanning 250 years, with an emphasis on the 19th and 20th centuries, the works in this exhibition, drawn entirely from the rich holdings of the DeMell Jacobsen Collection, highlight masterpieces of painting and sculpture by many of this country’s most important artists. While American Made includes eighty-five examples of painting and sculpture, the Collection as a whole currently includes more than three hundred works of art and continues to grow. It was put together by Dr. Diane DeMell Jacobsen and her late husband, Thomas Jacobsen. The American Made exhibition is organized into eight thematic sections that demonstrate how American artists from the colonial era to the 20th century supported the nation's growth and progress. Museum guests will discover: • Colonial-era portraits by masters, such as Benjamin West, Thomas Sully, and Rembrandt Peale; • Late 19th- and early 20th-century depictions of colonies and destinations by artists including Marsden Hartley, Leon Kroll, and John Sloan; • Mid-19th-century landscape painting depicting the United States from the mountains to the sea by artists such as Asher B. Durand, Jasper Francis Copsey, and William Bradford; • Still life paintings illuminating nature’s bounty by John Francis, Charles Ethan Porter, and Elizabeth Williams, and trompe l’oeil (French for “fool the eye”) still lifes by masters, including William Michael Harnett, John Haberle, and John Peto; • Genre scenes depicting everyday American life, including masterpieces by Elizabeth Jane Gardner Bouguereau, Seymour Guy, and Daniel Huntington; • The late 19th-century origins of American Modernism through works of artists such as Childe Hassam, William Merritt Chase, and Edwin Lord Weeks, who lived or spent considerable time studying abroad; • Examples of early 20th-century Modernism and mid-20th-century Abstract Expressionist style from Max Weber, John Marin, Charmion von Wiegand, and others; • Works depicting post-1930 urban and rural life by artists including Paul Kelpe, Molly Luce, and Walt Kuhn; and • A selection of 19th and 20th-century sculptures by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Frederick William MacMonnies, Elizabeth Catlett, and others. Shows like Jersey Boys have introduced this great music to new audiences and new generations. The Lyric Theatre will rock ‘n roll when the tribute group Let’s Hang On! brings the sound of The Four Seasons and other big names from the 1960s to its stage. Let’s Hang On! Is a group of six performers, four guys, two gals and a four-piece band, one of the few shows that still uses live music. The singer and musicians bring to life the music and style of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons by capturing the trademark vocal virtuosity, tight harmonies and crisp choreography that made their reputation. The production contains all of the memorable hits, including “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk like a Man,” “Can’t take my Eyes Off of You,” “December of 1963,” “Who Loves You” and more. They also feature music from other major hit makers of the 1960s and from Motown and pay tribute to the show Jersey Boys. The full-staged show will have you tapping your toes, singing along and even dancing in the aisles. For ten years, Let’s Hang On! has been entertaining crowds at venues from coast to coast. They perform for intimate groups of 150 and crowds as large as 5,000. Many of the dates are return engagements and they are invited back again and again. Vero Beach Museum of Art Celebrates Our Nation’s 250th Year with American Made: Paintings and Sculpture from the DeMell Jacobsen Collection Masterpieces by many of our country’s most important artists on view January 31–June 7, 2026 VERO BEACH, FL—In anticipation of our nation’s semi quincentennial, the Vero Beach Museum of Art (VBMA) is delighted to present American Made: Paintings and Sculpture from the DeMell Jacobsen Collection, an exhibition of more than 80 works by renowned American artists, including Benjamin West, Sarah Miriam Peale, Edward Moran, John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt, Robert Henri, and Charles Alston. The exhibition will be on view from Saturday, January 31, through Sunday, June 7, 2026. Spanning 250 years, with an emphasis on the 19th and 20th centuries, the works in this exhibition, drawn entirely from the rich holdings of the DeMell Jacobsen Collection, highlight masterpieces of painting and sculpture by many of this country’s most important artists. While American Made includes eighty-five examples of painting and sculpture, the Collection as a whole currently includes more than three hundred works of art and continues to grow. It was put together by Dr. Diane DeMell Jacobsen and her late husband, Thomas Jacobsen. The American Made exhibition is organized into eight thematic sections that demonstrate how American artists from the colonial era to the 20th century supported the nation's growth and progress. Museum guests will discover: • Colonial-era portraits by masters, such as Benjamin West, Thomas Sully, and Rembrandt Peale; • Late 19th- and early 20th-century depictions of colonies and destinations by artists including Marsden Hartley, Leon Kroll, and John Sloan; • Mid-19th-century landscape painting depicting the United States from the mountains to the sea by artists such as Asher B. Durand, Jasper Francis Copsey, and William Bradford; • Still life paintings illuminating nature’s bounty by John Francis, Charles Ethan Porter, and Elizabeth Williams, and trompe l’oeil (French for “fool the eye”) still lifes by masters, including William Michael Harnett, John Haberle, and John Peto; • Genre scenes depicting everyday American life, including masterpieces by Elizabeth Jane Gardner Bouguereau, Seymour Guy, and Daniel Huntington; • The late 19th-century origins of American Modernism through works of artists such as Childe Hassam, William Merritt Chase, and Edwin Lord Weeks, who lived or spent considerable time studying abroad; • Examples of early 20th-century Modernism and mid-20th-century Abstract Expressionist style from Max Weber, John Marin, Charmion von Wiegand, and others; • Works depicting post-1930 urban and rural life by artists including Paul Kelpe, Molly Luce, and Walt Kuhn; and • A selection of 19th and 20th-century sculptures by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Frederick William MacMonnies, Elizabeth Catlett, and others. Second Saturdays features a variety of cultural offerings, including the widely popular Museums Studios for families from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Complementary programming such as performances, lectures, films, and related expressions of arts and humanities will continue throughout the afternoon on select Saturdays. On Second Saturdays, families are greeted by friendly Visitor Services representatives and collect maps and other materials to guide their themed Museum Studios exploration. Museum Docents take young guests and their caregivers on mini-tours of the exhibition galleries before leading them to the art studios for a related activity. Vero Heritage, the non-profit that stewards the Heritage Center and Indian River Citrus Museum, will host its yearly gala fundraiser on April 11 at the Heritage Center. This exciting and unique event will celebrate the young people in the county who are actively involved in their pioneer famiies’ business, community involvement, and leadership. A pioneer is defined, at least in Indian River County, as a family that has been here since 1925. The young people whom we honor didn’t leave the county or state for greener pastures; they stayed here and cleaved to their families’ legacies of home, work, and commitment. Because our mission at Vero Heritage is the promotion and promulgation of county history, including cultural, agricultural, and especially citrus, we admire these young people for their unique roles in preserving and building upon the foundations laid for them by their pioneer forebears. This special event is ticketed, and seats are limited. We will feature a panel of five celebrants speaking about compelling issues of the day and moderated by Dan Richey. Vero Beach Museum of Art Celebrates Our Nation’s 250th Year with American Made: Paintings and Sculpture from the DeMell Jacobsen Collection Masterpieces by many of our country’s most important artists on view January 31–June 7, 2026 VERO BEACH, FL—In anticipation of our nation’s semi quincentennial, the Vero Beach Museum of Art (VBMA) is delighted to present American Made: Paintings and Sculpture from the DeMell Jacobsen Collection, an exhibition of more than 80 works by renowned American artists, including Benjamin West, Sarah Miriam Peale, Edward Moran, John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt, Robert Henri, and Charles Alston. The exhibition will be on view from Saturday, January 31, through Sunday, June 7, 2026. Spanning 250 years, with an emphasis on the 19th and 20th centuries, the works in this exhibition, drawn entirely from the rich holdings of the DeMell Jacobsen Collection, highlight masterpieces of painting and sculpture by many of this country’s most important artists. While American Made includes eighty-five examples of painting and sculpture, the Collection as a whole currently includes more than three hundred works of art and continues to grow. It was put together by Dr. Diane DeMell Jacobsen and her late husband, Thomas Jacobsen. The American Made exhibition is organized into eight thematic sections that demonstrate how American artists from the colonial era to the 20th century supported the nation's growth and progress. Museum guests will discover: • Colonial-era portraits by masters, such as Benjamin West, Thomas Sully, and Rembrandt Peale; • Late 19th- and early 20th-century depictions of colonies and destinations by artists including Marsden Hartley, Leon Kroll, and John Sloan; • Mid-19th-century landscape painting depicting the United States from the mountains to the sea by artists such as Asher B. Durand, Jasper Francis Copsey, and William Bradford; • Still life paintings illuminating nature’s bounty by John Francis, Charles Ethan Porter, and Elizabeth Williams, and trompe l’oeil (French for “fool the eye”) still lifes by masters, including William Michael Harnett, John Haberle, and John Peto; • Genre scenes depicting everyday American life, including masterpieces by Elizabeth Jane Gardner Bouguereau, Seymour Guy, and Daniel Huntington; • The late 19th-century origins of American Modernism through works of artists such as Childe Hassam, William Merritt Chase, and Edwin Lord Weeks, who lived or spent considerable time studying abroad; • Examples of early 20th-century Modernism and mid-20th-century Abstract Expressionist style from Max Weber, John Marin, Charmion von Wiegand, and others; • Works depicting post-1930 urban and rural life by artists including Paul Kelpe, Molly Luce, and Walt Kuhn; and • A selection of 19th and 20th-century sculptures by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Frederick William MacMonnies, Elizabeth Catlett, and others. For four-time Grammy winner Jimmie Vaughan, country music and the blues all come down to one thing. “When I talk about country and blues, they’re the same thing,” he said. “It’s Muddy Waters and Hank Williams, Webb Pierce and Jimmy Reed. When I was a kid, I didn’t understand the difference. Everybody was always asking me, ‘Why do you want to play blues? Why don’t you play country?’ But I would listen to the country guys and they’d be doing a Jimmy Reed song. They’re playing the same lick. And Ray Charles, Little Milton, Guitar Junior, Lonnie Brooks, B. B. King - they all did country songs. Is Bob Wills country, blues or jazz? The answer is, it’s American music.” Jimmie Vaughan fell in love with the blues while listening to it on a Black radio station in Dallas. When he first heard songs like Phil Upchurch’s “You Can’t Sit Down” and B.B. King’s many hit songs in the early 1960s, he knew he had found his music. Ever since then, it’s been a constant quest to play the blues, whether it was in early 1970s Austin bands like Storm and the Fabulous Thunderbirds or later, with his brother Stevie Ray Vaughan on their Family Style album or on his own releases throughout the 1990s. When it comes to the blues today, Jimmie Vaughan is one of a handful of artists making sure the music stays true to its roots. Vaughan has dedicated his life to making sure the blues not only stay alive but remain full of life and inspiration to all who listen. It’s a spirit he holds close and after 50 years of holding the blues close inside him, he isn’t about to stop now. Vaughan’s career began when he was in high school, playing Dallas’ Hob Knob Lounge six nights a week, learning lessons you don’t learn in school. When he realized he wanted to play the music he felt the strongest about, the blues, he hitchhiked to Austin and found a crew of blues players who shared his excitement. When he left the Fabulous Thunderbirds, after worldwide success, it was to forge his own path, exploring different approaches to the blues. “I wanted to find out what I could really do,” he said. “When I started singing, it gave me a whole new side to explore. When I was young, I didn’t really pay attention to categories of music. I just heard what I liked and decided to explore that. And that’s really what I’m still doing.” For some time, Jimmie Vaughan has been recording a series of albums dedicated to the songs he has held in high esteem, recorded by artists that inspired him from the beginning. The sessions were held in studios near Austin, and he was surrounded by musicians who felt, as he did, that music is intended to ignite the heart and fill the soul. His 2019 album, Baby, Please Come Home, brings to the forefront music from original artists including Lefty Frizzell, T-Bone Walker, Etta James, Fats Domino, Gatemouth Brown and Jimmy Reed. The wide range of artists proves the point that Jimmie Vaughan has always believed: Music is not what it’s labeled, but how it makes the listener feel. Jimmie Vaughan has always looked to his soul as the ultimate barometer of when the music is right, and when he is satisfied, he knows the music is ready to be shared.
