ECHOES IN WAX Encaustic Photographs by Stacia Hollmann - Opening Reception

On Exhibit: April 4 – May 30, 2026Opening Reception: Saturday, April 4, 4-7 PMArtist Talk: Friday, April 24, 11 AMNew Smyrna Beach, FL — On Saturday, April 4, from 4-7 PM, Arts on Douglas will be hosting a reception to celebrate the opening of Echoes in Wax, a new exhibition in the Feature Gallery by DeLand-based artist Stacia Hollmann. During this event, the gallery will feature the smooth jazz stylings of TRio with Tyler Rosenke on the drums, Ron Gilotti on the upright bass, and Howard Post on the guitar. Light refreshments will also be available. This event is free and open to the public. Image 1: Where Water Holds Light © Stacia HollmannAbout the ExhibitionStacia Hollmann is the newest addition to Arts on Douglas. For this, her first solo exhibition at the gallery, she presents Echoes in Wax – a compelling collection of photographs enhanced through the ancient medium of encaustic wax. From contemplative shorelines to deserted homes weathered by time, or the magical light of the circus, Hollmann creates thematic groupings that merge photography with wax, oils, and pastels to augment the ephemeral quality of her imagery. Hollmann explains, “Through the delicate layering of wax and imagery, I seek to capture the essence of fleeting moments, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and find solace in the stillness.” Each piece begins with a photograph mounted to a wood cradle, followed by the application of multiple layers of heated wax. Hollmann then manipulates the surface—scoring, scratching, and adding details with oils and pastels—before fusing each layer with a blow torch. This process creates a tactile experience that transcends the boundaries of traditional image-making. The resulting images emphasize simple, minimalistic compositions that evoke a sense of serenity and contemplation, further exemplified by the atmospheric quality of the wax surface.Image 2: Worn by Time – The Coat © Stacia Hollmann About the Artist Stacia Hollmann, based in DeLand, Florida, is a versatile artist known for her work in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional art forms. The Healing Arts Homeschool Art Program 2026

Program Components: The Healing Arts for Homeschool Students combines visual arts, culinary exploration, and dance/ movement to provide a well-rounded, immersive educational experience. The program takes place on the second Tuesday of each month during the school year at ACA’s main campus. The students rotate through three engaging classes, each with a different teacher and theme. This year’s theme is Florida Nature. She began as a high school art teacher and went on to earn five teaching degrees, including a master’s degree and certification as areading specialist. In retirement, she remains active in the arts community, volunteering with the Atlantic Center for the Arts (ACA) and creating distinctive paper collages that reflect her lifelong passion for education and the arts. Sue Flynn became a Personal Chef in 2002 after a 30-year career in retail. A member of the United States Personal Chef Association (USPCA), she earned her certification in 2005. Her lifelong interest in teaching found expression at Atlantic Center for the Arts, where she has led culinary programs including “Food as Art” for middle school students, ACA’s summer art camp, and most recently The Healing Arts for Homeschool Students program (2022–2025). Nadine Soldivieri is an accomplished performer and teacher with an extensive background in the performing arts. She earned her Associate of Arts degree in Theatre Arts and has dedicated her career to both performance and education, sharing her passion with students of all ages. Her training spans a wide range of disciplines, including tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern, gymnastics, acrobatics, voice, and theatre. Nadine has had the privilege of studying under many distinguished artists, among them George Tomal (ABT Co.), Carolyn Clark (ABT Co.), Joseph Carow (ABT Co.), Edward Villella (NYC Ballet Co.), Mia Michaels (So You Think You Can Dance), Savion Glover, Omar Edwards (Bring in ‘Da Noise, Bring in ‘Da Funk), Robert Fitch (Annie), Frank Hatchett, Germaine Salsburg, Phil Black, and Charles (Chuck) Kelley.
