Self-Portrait Painting with Acrylic Paint 2-DayWednesday, December 17 & Thursday, December 18*10:30am â 1:30pm Join Resident Artist and instructor, Ma Nong, for a workshop to create a self portrait using acrylic paint! In this full-day session, you will learn how to format the portrait composition, mix colors to understand color theory, and create a unique portrait that captures expression! All levels welcome. Attendees must bring portrait image that they would like to paint. *No makeup dates All supplies included. Instructor Biography Ma Nong As a Taiwanese born in Korea, I moved to South Florida in 2013. We encountered strangeness and difference at every turn, but the sunlight, sky, and green nature of the subtropical culture always gave me warm inspiration. I have lived in South Florida for a decade now compressing and symbolizing this into color-rich cubes representing home, the strangeness of being different from my native country, and the process of adapting. Gradually, I developed a series of portraits exploring the signifiers of human nature. Humanoid figures are portrayed as childrenâs dolls with exaggerated heads and smaller torsos and are centered and anchored as if trying to root themselves into the frame. They reflect child-like vulnerability where the feelings of dread, loneliness, and weakness to the familiar/unfamiliar world are present. Dimensional crystalline shapes simultaneously create and break the form symbolizing complex units that both comprise and undermine identity. Color is bold and convincing, resembling that of nationality, yet it doesnât reveal the true origin of the figure. In this process of seeing and feeling all my surrounding environments, large puzzles are put together one by one, and these experiences are fused and harmonized in one complete work. ** Please note, Refunds will be processed only if requested 72+ hours prior to scheduled workshop date/time. Intro to Photography December 17 | 12pm-4pm Whether youâre picking up a camera for the very first time or brushing up on your skills, this two-day workshop is designed to help you feel more confident, creative, and inspired behind the lens. Weâll begin with the foundations.Â Learning your camera, exploring key settings, and understanding techniques that apply across different styles of photography. Together, weâll focus on three core areas: portraiture, landscape, and personal projects. Here, you can explore which direction excites you most. In this intensive session, youâll learn the best practices for shooting and how to approach different types of photos. Youâll have guided practice time to apply new skills, experiment, and ask questions as you work. Then, youâll critique the images you captured and identify ways to improve. This format creates space for both individual feedback and group learning. Youâll also have the chance to print a selection of your photos on-site! Youâll leave with tangible 4Ă6 prints that you can take home, share, or keep as a reminder of your progress. This workshop is designed to meet you where you are. Other exhibits of her studentsâ work include the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center in Belle Glade and the Lighthouse ArtCenter in Tequesta. Another unique quality of alcohol ink is that the dried ink can be ârevivedâ when coming into contact with fresh ink or blending solution, allowing for further process of the design. Youâll have the opportunity to photograph with the group, add new images to your portfolio, and receive personalized feedback of your portfolio. Weâll study the work of photographers whose projects have made lasting impact â discussing how such work is created, funded, and shared. Youâll leave with concrete ideas, inspiration, and a plan to carry your passion project forward. What to Expect:Youâll explore notable photography projects, participate in a guided shooting assignment, and discuss creative approaches. In this hands-on still life workshop, weâll explore the unique fruits in season across South Florida and transform them into beautiful works of art. Each season, we focus on a new variety of fruit to inspire our still lifes. For December, weâll work with locally sourced tropical produceâfrom passionfruit to canistel, black sapote, and Florida avocadoâwhile learning about their origins and where to find them. Whether you choose to collaborate with others or create independently, youâll have access to a stunning array of fruit and all the tools needed to bring your vision to life. Led by photographerÂ Andrea Sarcos, who has been creating fruit still lifes since 2022, this workshop covers composition, lighting, and design principles to help you craft an image (or drawing) youâre proud of. Cameras, backdrops, and lighting will be provided, though youâre welcome to bring your own camera or phone. The End. is a solo exhibition that presents a vigorous survey of Khaulah Naima Nuruddinâs work for the last decade. Ranging from painting, mixed-media works, sculptures, and installations, Nuruddin reflects on the weight we carry in our emotional and spiritual lives and how care, responsibility, and community shape who we were, who we are, and who we are becoming. This exhibition questions the relevance of the body/physical form in this realm right now and challenges the notion of self and the life cycles we pass through. She highlights creation as an ongoing process: anything can be undone, reimagined, and made again. At the heart of this exhibition is an essential truth the artist has arrived at: âThis is the end of the me, thatâs not me.â Khaulah Naima Nuruddin BioKhaulah Naima Nuruddin is a multimedia artist from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who lives and works in South Florida. Nuruddinâs work explores the intersections of personal expression and social commentary by initiating public discussion of race, sexuality and the social transfer inherent to her work as a Black, lesbian artist. She is dedicated to exploring and presenting a myriad of conceptual and material approaches to address and rectify the wide range of injustice experienced by marginalized people. Nuruddin earned her BFA from The University of South Florida and her MFA from Florida Atlantic University. She serves as Curator and Exhibitions Manager for the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum.Tayina Deravile BioTayina Deravile is a cultural practitioner, arts professional, and independent curator. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Central Florida and a Masterâs degree in Mental Health Counseling at Nova Southeastern University. While attending graduate school, Tayina began her career in arts administration at the NSU Art Museum, Fort Lauderdale. She is currently the Gallery Manager at Girlsâ Club, the only private collection in the world that primarily exhibits contemporary art by women.

In this full-day session, you will learn how to format the portrait composition, mix colors to understand color theory, and create a unique portrait that captures expression! All levels welcome. Attendees must bring portrait image that they would like to paint. *No makeup dates All supplies included. Instructor Biography Ma Nong As a Taiwanese born in Korea, I moved to South Florida in 2013. We encountered strangeness and difference at every turn, but the sunlight, sky, and green nature of the subtropical culture always gave me warm inspiration. I have lived in South Florida for a decade now compressing and symbolizing this into color-rich cubes representing home, the strangeness of being different from my native country, and the process of adapting. Gradually, I developed a series of portraits exploring the signifiers of human nature. Humanoid figures are portrayed as childrenâs dolls with exaggerated heads and smaller torsos and are centered and anchored as if trying to root themselves into the frame. They reflect child-like vulnerability where the feelings of dread, loneliness, and weakness to the familiar/unfamiliar world are present. Dimensional crystalline shapes simultaneously create and break the form symbolizing complex units that both comprise and undermine identity. Color is bold and convincing, resembling that of nationality, yet it doesnât reveal the true origin of the figure. In this process of seeing and feeling all my surrounding environments, large puzzles are put together one by one, and these experiences are fused and harmonized in one complete work. ** Please note, Refunds will be processed only if requested 72+ hours prior to scheduled workshop date/time.
