Modern Mixed Media PortraitsLed by Janie Reisler $125 (includes a materials fee) In this NEW workshop, we will focus on creating a Mixed Media portrait or self portrait with a modern art edge! By combining actual painting techniques with collage, we will compose a portrait with a unique modern art style. Students are encouraged to bring some of their own photos and images to personalize their piece. Students will walk away with a completed portrait, ready to varnish with âhow toâ instructions once dry. She holds an honors degree in Art History from McGill University, a degree in graphic design from Dawson College and a certification in fashion illustration and merchandising from Lasalle College as well. With over 35 years as an owner of a National fashion brand, she is now happily retired and doing what she loves most, teaching unique workshops and art courses. This intermediate-level workshop is designed for photographers who want to develop meaningful, long-term projects with creative intention and mentorship. Over this session, youâll refine your artistic voice, explore what inspires you, and learn how to shape your images into a cohesive body of work. Youâll have the opportunity to photograph with the group, add new images to your portfolio, and receive personalized feedback of your portfolio. Weâll study the work of photographers whose projects have made lasting impact â discussing how such work is created, funded, and shared. Youâll leave with concrete ideas, inspiration, and a plan to carry your passion project forward. What to Expect:Youâll explore notable photography projects, participate in a guided shooting assignment, and discuss creative approaches. You will also share your work to receive individualized feedback, and develop an action plan for your ongoing project. If you already have a project in progress, please bring a portfolio of 10 images for group review (digital or printed). If not, bring 10 of your favorite photos to begin building your concept. Andrea curates an annual group exhibit of her studentsâ best work of the year to be on display at Florida Atlantic Universityâs Schmidt Gallery. Other exhibits of her studentsâ work include the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center in Belle Glade and the Lighthouse ArtCenter in Tequesta. She has led educational trips with National Geographic Student Expeditions and Putney Student Travel, focusing on photography while collaborating with experts in other fields like biology and science. Andrea is based in Boca Raton, Florida. Her work focuses on issues surrounding identity, migration, memory through the lens of visual storytelling. He received his MFA in painting and printmaking from Yale University and has been a Faculty Fellow of the Honors College at Florida International University since 2004. His work explores history and culture, with an emphasis on the Transatlantic dialogue. His large oil paintings and small mixed media works on paper explore the question of how we are who we are in relation to history, place, and culture. His works have been exhibited at University of Zillman Museum of Art, Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Art, John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Texas State University, as well as other venues in the US and France. Bailly was the inaugural Charles Deering McCormick Fellow Artist in Residence in Miami. His residency was documented in the short film âJohn William Bailly: In Situâ by independent filmmaker Jorge Gonzalez-Graupera. He has been awarded the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship for Visual and Media Artists, a State of Florida Individual Artist Grant, and a Miami-Dade County Individual Artist Grant. In 2007, Bailly and critically acclaimed poet Richard Blanco produced a collaborative project, Place of Mind. At FIU, Bailly was Faculty Director of France, Italy, and Spain Study Abroad for 15 years and currently teaches two innovative seminars about the culture and history of Miami. Since 2023, he has been a Beyond the Podium speaker on Celebrity Cruises. He has been awarded two Excellence in Teaching awards and a European Union grant for course development. His work was recently acquired by the Frost Museum of Art, Perez Art Museum of Miami, the University of Miamiâs Lowe Art Museum and the Zillman Art Museum in Maine. Jewelry Wax to Silver - Ring Carving

Create.Join us for an immersive jewelry-making experience where youâll design and shape your ring using specialized jewelerâs wax, navigating the entire process from initial concept to final product. What You Will Do: â Learn the ancient art of wax carving, and the process behind lost wax metal casting â Design your ring according to your desired size and style â Utilize precision tools for shaping, carving, filing, texturing, and sanding. â Receive hands-on assistance from our instructor throughout the workshop. Once your wax ring model is complete,Â we will manage the subsequent stepâcasting it in solid sterling silverÂ using the lost-wax process. Each student will be allotted 15 grams of silver. Bookbinding: Create Your Own Photobookwith Andrea Sarcos February 26 | 10:30amâ2:30pm Cost: $140Â All materials provided This hands-on bookbinding workshop invites participants to create a book âdummyâ using their own photographs. While the class focuses on photography, participants working in other media are welcome. Students will learn the fundamentals of hand-bound paper books and explore examples of artist books to better understand the wide range of forms and expressive possibilities the photobook can take. Led by Artist-in-Residence Andrea Sarcos, the workshop includes a guided demonstration of saddle stitch binding, an introduction to building page spreads in Adobe InDesign, and a presentation of hand-bound book samples from Andreaâs personal collection. Participants will be guided through editing, sequencing, and assembling images into a cohesive book structure, with time for discussion and creative experimentation. Since 2018 she has taught photography classes to students K-12 as a Senior Artist in Residence at the Boys and Girls Club of Palm Beach County, the fifth largest Club organization in the United States. Sharing her knowledge of photography, she sparked interest in hundreds of young kids who have learned how to use digital cameras, tell a story visually, create interesting portraits and intentionally explore their communities. Andrea curates an annual group exhibit of her studentsâ best work of the year to be on display at Florida Atlantic Universityâs Schmidt Gallery. Other exhibits of her studentsâ work include the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center in Belle Glade and the Lighthouse ArtCenter in Tequesta. She has led educational trips with National Geographic Student Expeditions and Putney Student Travel, focusing on photography while collaborating with experts in other fields like biology and science. Andrea is based in Boca Raton, Florida. Her work focuses on issues surrounding identity, migration, memory through the lens of visual storytelling. Her photography journey began in high school seeing her images come to life in darkroom chemicals. She received dual bachelors degrees in Journalism and Visual Art Studies from the University of Florida (2015).
