He called Hartford businessmen a "bunch of Babbitts," shocked Farmington matrons with his off-color ebullience, and nearly ruined his relationship with Dr. Paul de Kruif, silent co-author of Arrowsmith, the novel Lewis incubated in West Hartford and which would win him the Pulitzer Prize. Join Dr. Dennis Morgan for an evening of entertaining tales of Lewis's time in West Hartford.Dennis Morgan, MD is a retired physician and medical history columnist for the physician network Sermo. Camp Jened, a ramshackle camp “for the handicapped” (a term no longer used) in the Catskills, exploded those confines. Jened was their freewheeling Utopia, a place with summertime sports, smoking and make-out sessions awaiting everyone, and campers experienced liberation and full inclusion as  human beings. Their bonds endured as many migrated West to Berkeley, California — a hotbed of activism where friends from Camp Jened realized that disruption, civil disobedience, and political participation could change the future for millions.Hosted in partnership with the Town of West Hartford's Office of Employee Development & Community Engagement. Registration required.
