Join us for a powerful and inspiring workshop that blends history, storytelling, and creative expression. Master Teaching Artist Ed Johnetta Miller will share the true story of the brave young Black women who attended Prudence Crandall’s School for Young Black Girls in Canterbury, Connecticut. This story will be brought to life as Ed Johnetta shares some of her exquisite quilts that commemorate these young women. Then, create your own expressive collage portraits using a variety of images and materials. Each artwork will honor courage, resilience, and the power of learning, and provide participants with the opportunity to reflect on how commemoration helps us understand our present moment, and provide a foundation for a community’s ongoing vitality. No art experience necessary. All materials provided! TICKETS $10 General Admission $5 Members Free for Connecticut Museum Member levels $150+ Cost includes all materials. This workshop is part of "By the People: Conversations Beyond 250," a series of community-driven programs created by humanities councils in collaboration with local partners. This year introduces a more dynamic format, featuring food and beverage stations from Chamber member restaurants in place of a traditional seated dinner.  This creates a more interactive experience that highlights the diversity of our local business community. We anticipate a sold-out crowd of 150+ business and community leaders for this lively and inspiring evening. Two storm chasers find a love that could blow them away in this electric debut romance! An audience Q&A and signing will follow the talk.   About the Book Wedding photographer Sloane Michaels spends most of her year running after brides, but she lives for the six weeks each spring she chases tornadoes instead. Meeting monthly, the committee serves as a conduit between the Chamber, town officials, and local businesses, keeping members informed about key policy updates, new developments, and infrastructure projects. Its efforts culminate in the Annual Economic Development Update, offering stakeholders a clear view of the town’s economic trajectory. By identifying challenges and creating solutions, the committee drives prosperity and long-term success across the business community. The Chamber has a process for businesses to seek support for a particular issue they may be facing.  On an individual basis, the committee invites businesses to submit an application for support. Early American Adventure Camp Ages 8-12   Early American Adventure Camp is the Noah Webster House's full day camp, offered in conjunction with West Hartford’s Westmoor Park. Through activities at both the Noah Webster House and Westmoor Park, children experience first-hand the chores, games and history of the past. This year, each week offers a different theme and a new set of activities! Week One campers will learn about Piracy in the 1700s, and Week Two campers will experience Early America Through The Seasons. At Westmoor Park, children care for the barnyard animals, tend the vegetable garden, and create crafts from nature. Register Online!   Piracy in the 1700s 7/6/26 – 7/10/26 Did you know West Hartford’s very own Noah Webster wrote a book about the dangers of piracy? Climb aboard & set sail into the 1700s as campers become early American adventurers, learning all about pirates, playing themed-games, & creating hands-on crafts inspired by 18th-century swashbucklers!   Early America Through The Seasons 7/20/26 – 7/24/26 Travel through a full year of 18th-century life in one week! By participating in seasonal chores, foods, and traditions, campers will learn how daily life for families in the 1700s changed with the seasons. Camp is held at two different locations: Monday/Wednesday/Friday sessions will be held at the Noah Webster House, 227 South Main Street. Tuesday and Thursday sessions will be held at Westmoor Park, 119 Flagg Road. Hours of camp are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. An extended hour until 5:00 pm is available for $50/week. Price: $290/per child per week for Museum Members* $325/per child per week for non-members Note: Museum Memberships start as low as $35. By purchasing a membership, you can secure a camp spot for the same price as a non-member—no extra cost for membership!
