"CHIAROSCURO Effect on Black Paper" - Colored Pencil DrawingThe term "chiaroscuro" is a combination of ‘chiaro’ and ‘scuro’ – the Italian words for dark and light. It is a centuries-old technique that renders art much more dramatic and atmospheric, establishing a rich and evocative mood. The high contrast between the heavy shadows and intensely lit elements creates a sense of depth and three-dimensional volume. Renaissance artists Caravaggio, da Vinci, and Rembrandt are some of the best-known artists who regularly applied it in their paintings. In this course, students will be guided through the process of creating this effect in their own chosen compositions.Please register for the first class only, on January 23, and you'll be considered signed up for all six. The dates are: Jan 23 and 30; Feb 6, 13, 20 and 27.

Ruben's account of his parent's fortuitous flight to South America will be seen in the context of the unprecedented horrors occurring throughout Europe.He shares the story beginning during the Holocaust and the decades that followed.Ruben is passionate about sharing his family’s story.
