Sunday. Spring is a great time to enjoy a view of the landscape that makes up Gungywamp, an archaeological site of natural and cultural interest. Join us on a guided hike to explore rocky ridges, glacial erratics and swamps, along with the mysterious stone shelter and structures whose use and origin are open to interpretation. Walk with us through the woods and absorb the centuries of mystery of Gungywamp. A Gungywamp hike is for adults and families who are comfortable walking two miles of moderate difficulty over uneven terrain. Meets in the parking area at the former Shepherd of the Sea Chapel, 231 Gungywamp Road, Groton. Space is limited, advanced sign-up is required. Members $25.50 – Non-members $30 REGISTER

Our science-based curriculum introduces students to the wonders of the natural world. New topics are covered each week through hands-on activities, meeting live animals, games and time for nature play and socialization. Sign up for one or all of the classes. Classes are limited to 12 students. Please bring a snack and water bottle to each class. Dress to go outside in all weather conditions! *Please note that our Animal Curator Program does not follow the same curriculum as above. Students are immersed in hands-on activities working with our resident and rehabilitating wildlife. Activities include cleaning and setting up tanks, providing enrichment activities for wildlife and learning more about the care of wild animals. Students alternate animal care tasks with hikes, nature journaling and other group activities at DPNC. Thursdays. With Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center as basecamp, each day will be spent exploring the forest, wetlands, meadows and gardens that make up the campus. Daily activities align with the seasons and a majority of our time will be spent outdoors.  Examples of activities include exploring Pequotsepos Brook, searching for salamanders, using microscopes to look for organisms in the soil, nature sketching, harvesting vegetables, cooking in our teaching kitchen and meeting animals. Our science-based curriculum is shaped by individual interests. Friendships and teamwork are emphasized as participants learn together.  This program runs for the entire school year and families are encouraged to make a year-long commitment, however payments are made by the session. Once you enroll in the program, you are guaranteed a spot in the next session. If you skip a session, your spot is no longer guaranteed.  Upon registration you will be emailed homeschool forms.
