Join us to play the legendary tabletop game, Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition (2024 Rules). Whether you are a total beginner who wants to learn the basics or a veteran looking for a consistent, structured campaign, we have a table for you. Expect an engaging, story-rich experience focused on cooperative adventure, problem-solving, and roleplaying. We look forward to seeing you. Fun for All!Presenters:Mary Hogue is chair of the Fairfield Forestry Committee, vice-chair of Sustainable Fairfield and board member of the Pollinator Pathway and Mill River Wetland Committee, among other organizations she’s involved with. She is a certified UConn Master Gardener and has been working with many wonderful volunteers to beautify Fairfield by installing and maintaining pollinator gardens around town.Ted Luchsinger retired in 2019 from a successful business career providing technology solutions to Financial Services globally, having worked for Hewlett Packard, SAP, PwC and AWS among others. Currently serving as a Director of the Fairfield Pollinator Pathway, Director of Campus Outreach for Lights Out Connecticut, Commissioner on the Fairfield Conservation and Inland Waterways commissions and a volunteer on the Forestry Committee finding like-minded people and community is both engaging and fulfilling. Projects have included collaborations with Audubon, Aspetuck Land Trust, and other non-profits as well as commercial partners. Examples include Non-toxic Fairfield rodenticide pilot protecting raptors, Living Bird Friendly with Lights Out Ct., Invasive species expert panel, Fairfield University Sustainability panel, SHU Laudato Si office liaison.Stefan Martin, Conservation Manager for The CT Audubon Society brings a depth of environmental and birding knowledge from a wide variety of experiences to our sanctuary management team. His current role involves habitat restoration and enhancement to sanctuary properties with a focus on increasing biodiversity. Join us for an engaging lecture hosted by Professor Gil Harel, exploring the iconic musical 1776 in the context of America’s 250th birthday in 2026. This talk will delve into how the musical, first performed in 1969, vividly portrays the struggles and compromises surrounding the signing of the Declaration of Independence, capturing the revolutionary spirit of the nation’s founding. As we approach the semiquincentennial, Professor Harel will discuss how 1776 not only celebrates America’s birth but also confronts its complexities, such as the debate over slavery, as seen in powerful songs like “Molasses to Rum.”The lecture will also explore how the show's bold storytelling and humanization of historical figures cast a spotlight on our founding era, creating a bridge between past and present narratives of American identity.Professor Gil Harel (PhD, Brandeis University) is a musicologist and music theorist whose interests include styles ranging from western art music to contemporary musical theater. Previously, he served on the faculty at CUNY Baruch College (where he was awarded the prestigious "Presidential Excellence Award for Distinguished Teaching"). Currently, he is FullProfessor of Music at CT State Naugatuck Valley, where he has been presented with the AFT "Merit Award for Exemplary Service to the College" for 6 consecutive years. In 2020, he was honored with the coveted Connecticut Board of Regents (BOR) Teaching Award. At NVCC, Dr. Harel conducts the college chorale, a cappella ensemble, teaches music historyand theory, and serves as musical director of theater productions.

On loan from Fairfield Museum & History CenterA series of graphic novel-style panels designed by illustrator Kirk Manley tells the dramatic story of the spy ring that operated between New York City, Long Island, and Fairfield during the Revolutionary War.Manley’s artwork communicates the drama of espionage during the war, underscoring the challenges faced by American forces arrayed against a formidable foe. Visitors will be able to see, through the eyes of specific historical characters, the risks that both military officers and ordinary civilians were willing to take to help their cause. This exhibition explores the motivations and contributions of the spy ring, bringing to life the risks that they took to secure and transmit intelligence.The exhibit runs May 11, 2026 - July 6, 2026Kirk will be visiting us in person on Tuesday, June 23 for a program on "The Making Of..." his graphic novel. Join us for a fascinating lecture with folklorist and researcher Derek Piotr, founder of The Derek Piotr Fieldwork Archive.The Derek Piotr Fieldwork Archive was established by Derek Piotr in August 2022. The Archive contains over 1,500 audio recordings made from March 2020 onward, and preserves diverse representations of folklife; ballads, hymns, tales, poems, children’s songs, and interviews among them. The focus of this collection is on the "non-singer": someone with no background in musical performance who can nevertheless relate a song or folkloric memory. In this lecture, Derek will walk you through the process of journeying everywhere from Iceland to Appalachia to record these songs from non-musicians, as well as the organization and development of the Archive as a web-based repository.Derek Piotr is a folklorist, researcher and performer whose work focuses primarily on the human voice. His work covers practices including fieldwork, vocal performance, preservation and autoethnography; and is primarily concerned with tenderness, fragility, beauty and brutality. He has collaborated with artists including Scott Solter, Nathan Salsburg and Thomas Brinkmann across various disciplines.
