New England Smart Energy will visit the Hagaman MemorialLibrary to provide information about the Energize CT state program and scheduling for an energy assessment.  Through  Energize CT we offer energy assessments to homeowners in Connecticut that have Eversource or UI as their utility provider.  These energy assessments are no cost for income eligible customers and low cost for market rate customers.  During these energy assessments we evaluate potential efficiency problems in the home. This includes needs for insulation, air-sealing, and heating and cooling systems.  Once an assessment is performed, the program offers incentives and rebates for potential projects, such as 75-100% off insulation, and no-cost air sealing. These rebates and incentives are higher for income eligible customers and vary according to the homeowner's current financial situation. *The library is allowing New England Smart Energy to have an information table at the library and to schedule energy assessments for homeowners at a free or minimal cost. The Hagaman Memorial Library is not sponsored by or affiliated with New England Smart Energy.

Our primary purpose is to bring the joy of hearing choral music to audiences living in nursing homes and rehabilitation centers. We provide music to our singers so that they can have the words in front of them; most of our songs are familiar American songs - we basically try to create a sing-along quality.  We are always happy to welcome people who like to sing. The class will be taught by experienced crochet artist Claire Carrano. Crochet is a fiber art done with one hook and one strand of yarn. It is easy, very fun, and full of possibilities. The main difference between crochet and knitting is that crochet has only one live stitch at all times â the stitch that lives on your hook. Hagaman's Shakespeare Reading Club will again meet to discuss their latest selection, "The Taming of the Shrew." To join the discussion, please either stop in, call us at 203-468-3890, or email Chris, Reference Librarian & group facilitator, directly at [email protected]. "The Taming of the Shrew" is a comedy written between 1590 - 1592. The main plot depicts the courtship of Petruchio and Katherina, the headstrong, obdurate shrew. Initially, Katherina is an unwilling participant in the relationship; however, Petruchio "tames" her with various psychological and physical torments, such as keeping her from eating and drinking, until she becomes a desirable, compliant, and obedient bride. The subplot features a competition between the suitors of Katherina's younger sister, Bianca, who is seen as the "ideal" woman.

Hagaman's Science Fiction Book Club will again meet to discuss their latest selection, "I, Robot" by Isaac Asimov. To join the discussion, please either stop in, call us at 203-468-3890, or email Chris Hemingway, Reference Librarian and group facilitator, directly at [email protected]. "I, Robot" is a short-story collection which originally appeared in the American magazines Super Science Stories and Astounding Science Fiction between 1940 and 1950. The stories are woven together by a framing narrative in which the fictional Dr. Susan Calvin tells each story to a reporter (who serves as the narrator) in the 21st century. Although the stories can be read separately, they share a theme of the interaction of humans, robots, and morality, and when combined they tell a larger story of Asimov's fictional history of robotics.

Enjoy the library's Crochet Club for everyone! Whether you are a beginner or a more experienced crocheter, this is the class for you! The class will be taught by experienced crochet artist Claire Carrano. Crochet is a fiber art done with one hook and one strand of yarn. It is easy, very fun, and full of possibilities. The main difference between crochet and knitting is that crochet has only one live stitch at all times â the stitch that lives on your hook. The class will meet weekly on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. in the library's Large Print room beginning on Tuesday, September 17 and ending on Tuesday, December 17.  Most materials will be provided, however, if you have materials at home (such as crochet hooks or a special yarn you prefer to use) please feel free to bring them along. Registration is required. There is a limit of 15. To register, please call the library at: 203-468-3890 or contact Cynthia, Community Services Librarian, at 203-468-3891. Get a free consultation with an attorney from the New Haven County Bar Association at the Hagaman Memorial Library on the third Wednesday of each month from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. No need to pre-register. The New Haven County Bar Associationâs ASK A LAWYER program is designed to provide members of the community with general legal information; an attorney meets with the participant and provides a free 10-15 minute consultation. If the individual requires additional assistance, they are referred to our Lawyer Referral Service or a social service agency. No appointment is necessary, consultations are given on a first-come, first-served basis.
