Saturday, April 20 at 2 p.m. at the Center, 218 Day Rd in Pomfret Celebrate International Bat Appreciation Day with a presentation by Maureen Heidtmann, one of only three licensed wildlife rehabilitators in Connecticut specializing in caring for bats. Maureen will begin with an overview of bats of the world, with an emphasis on our local species. She will cover myths and misconceptions, roles they play in ensuring a healthy planet, perils they face as they struggle to survive and their amazing resilience. Maureen has USDA permits to keep non-releasable bats and she’ll bring an “ambassador” bat with her. No registration required.  Fee: $5 CAS members $10 non-members.

Home-grown heroes and local produce, too! The Coventry Farmers’ Market on the Nathan Hale Homestead grounds is an experience not to be missed. Open every Sunday from June – October, we’re hosting the 21st season of the Coventry Farmers’ Market on the grounds of Nathan Hale Homestead in Coventry. Our market carries the tradition of being the largest farmers’ markets in Connecticut, featuring some of the best of CT-grown, CT-made products around at one of the most unspoiled countryside settings in the state. Each week, the staff of the Homestead hosts family-friendly programs including 18th–century games, hearth cooking, cheese-making, woodworking, and so much more. Programming is subject to change. FREE admission to the grounds fees apply for some programs. The Nathan Hale Homestead is open from 10 am–2 pm on Sundays. Tours of the museum’s interiors are available for regular admission fees. Feel free to stop in to the Museum Shop to continue your shopping adventure!

Do you love clay but don’t really get all the fuss about the wheel? Here’s your class! This 8 week session will be project based, but will allow flexibility for those who come with experience and have their own ideas. Some of the projects and techniques that will be explored include: pierced luminaries, creating forms through coiling and altering, lace platters or low bowls, and surface decoration to highlight texture.  Cost: $340 This includes 16 free hours of open studio time but does not include firing fees, which are based on the size of the pieces you create.

Join us at our Farm Festival as we showcase our amazing, local, craft vendors.  Enjoy local tastes from the food trucks — Grace Gourmet, RaRa’s Frozen Express, and Creamery Brook Bison.  Check out the antique tractor display.  Visit the shop for bison, pork and chicken, raised on our farm. The latest addition to the store is Deb’s new business, Copy, Cut and Paint.  Check out what she has created.  No visit to the farm would be complete without a free wagon ride to see the bison where they roam!  There will be children’s games to keep the kiddos occupied while you shop and are waiting for your turn to ride in the wagon for the bison visit.
