Passports to Connecticut Libraries 2026Brought to you by the Connecticut Library Association April 1 â 30, 2026 Itâs back! The Passports to Connecticut Libraries program returns this April, inviting library lovers of all ages to explore libraries across the state. Beginning April 1, stop by your local library to pick up your program passport and a list of participating libraries. Then start exploring! Visit as many participating libraries as you like between April 1 and April 30. At each stop, get your passport stampedâand you might even pick up some fun library swag along the way. Turn in your completed passport to your local library by May 11 to be entered into the statewide prize drawing. No library card is required to participate, although we hope youâll sign up for one at your local library if you donât already have one. You donât have to visit every library to take part. Anyone who visits at least five participating libraries will be entered into the random prize drawing. Be sure to check the list that comes with your passport to confirm which libraries are officially participatingâonly stamps from those libraries count toward the drawing. This year, there are six chances to win a $200 Visa gift card. Random drawings will be held statewide in the following categories:⢠Adult who visited the most libraries⢠Child under 18 who visited the most libraries⢠Adult who visited more than 25 libraries⢠Child under 18 who visited more than 25 libraries⢠Adult who visited more than five libraries⢠Child under 18 who visited more than five libraries Prize drawings will take place on June 15, 2026 Start planning your library adventureâwe canât wait to see where your passport takes you!

REGISTER & SUBMIT QUESTIONS HERE via Digital Livestream or on Demand Join us for an exhilarating journey through the history of US women astronauts with Valerie Neal, emerita curator from the Smithsonianâs National Air and Space Museum and expert on human spaceflight. Sally Ride became a household name as the first American woman in space, but scores of equally impressive women have also left their mark in space. On a Mission: The Smithsonian History of US Women Astronauts spans 45 years and 61 astronauts to share the epic journeys of women who made space for themselves in a male-dominated field. Valerie Neal interviewed many of the US women astronauts to bring their experiences to life. She offers a culturally insightful history of their achievements, the challenges theyâve faced, and their distinctive stories. Collectively, theyâve completed more than 100 space shuttle missions, and more than 30 long-duration stays on the International Space Station and Russian Space Station Mir, and they continue to prove themselves in present-day space exploration efforts. The book includes 50 black-and-white photographs to complement the historical account. With its sweeping look from the first women astronauts to Christina Hammock Koch, assigned to the first crewed Artemis mission around the Moon, there is no comparably thorough book on Americaâs women astronauts. On a Mission is an inspiring tribute to unsung womenâs history. Register now to take part in this inspirational discussion! About the Author: Valerie Neal is a space historian and Curator Emerita at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC. Her specialty is human spaceflight, space technology, and space science in the Space Shuttle era and beyond. At the Museum, she collected more than 1500 artifacts of the shuttle era, curated three exhibitions and eight documentary programs for the Smithsonian Channel (cable TV), published books and articles growing from her research, lectured in the USA and abroad, and gave many interviews for US and international media. Before joining the Museum, she was a writer and editor for some 25 NASA publications on Space Shuttle and Spacelab missions, the Hubble Space Telescope and other Great Observatories, space science, and NASA History. She participated in underwater astronaut training in Alabama and mission support in Houston for four Space Shuttle missions. She has taught American Studies and writing courses at multiple universities. Valerie Neal holds Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in American Studies and a B.A. degree in English and History.

Julien Levy: Life, Legacy, and the Women Artists He ChampionedRegistration required. RSVP below. The presentation will be led by Marie Difilippantonio, co-author of the four-volume publication Julien Levy: The Man His Gallery His Legacy. The program will explore the life and influence of Julien Levy (1906â1981), the pioneering art dealer widely credited with introducing Surrealism to the United States through his influential New York gallery during the 1930s and 1940s. A resident of Bridgewater later in life, Levy continued to promote Surrealist art, becoming a significant figure in the history of the movement in his own right. While Levy is often remembered for exhibiting artists such as Salvador DalĂ­ and Man Ray, he was also notable for championing a number of women artists at a time when opportunities for them were limited. This program will highlight several of the women whose work Levy supported and examine their contributions to modern art. Speaker Marie Difilippantonio brings a unique perspective to Levyâs story. She holds a bachelorâs degree in history from Mercer University and began working for Jean Farley Levy, Julien Levyâs widow, in 1985. After Jean Levyâs death in 2003, Difilippantonio helped facilitate the auctions of the Levy art collection, books, and ephemera held at Tajan in Paris in 2004 and 2006. She also catalogued and prepared a finding aid for the Levy archival papers before they were donated to the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 2008.
