The Health Advisory Council strives to be the catalyst that connects business and health. The Council works with topic experts, public authorities, community leaders, Chamber Members, and other organizations to educate San Diego businesses about regional health care issues that impact their bottom line and workforce productivity. Advisory Council Members are responsible for discussing and deciding, by vote, the goals, activities, and strategies that the Chamber uses to deliver up-to-date, health-related information to enhance the quality of life for San Diegans. The Sustainability Advisory Council aims to play a pivotal role in fostering a sustainable future for our business community and the broader region. Committed to addressing pressing environmental challenges, the council will collaborate with elected officials, community leaders, Chamber Members, subject matter experts, and other organizations to influence policies and initiatives that promote sustainability, responsible growth, and lasting prosperity.  Areas of Focus:  Environmental Stewardship: The council will work towards developing strategies that encourage businesses to adopt fiscally responsible environmentally conscious practices, reduce their ecological footprint, and embrace sustainable technologies and processes. This includes promoting energy efficiency, waste reduction, sustainable sourcing, and other environmentally friendly practices.  Green Business Development: The council will support the creation and expansion of green businesses and industries that align with sustainable practices and contribute to the region's environmental goals. This focus area aims to foster innovation and economic growth in areas such as renewable energy, green technology, and eco-friendly products and services.  Climate Action and Resilience: The council will advocate for fiscally responsible policies that mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, support climate adaptation measures, and prepare businesses for legislative initiatives in relation to such.  Circular Economy: Encouraging the adoption of circular economy principles will be central to the council's efforts. This involves promoting practices that reduce waste, promote recycling and upcycling, and encourage product design with end-of-life considerations in mind.  Sustainable Infrastructure: The council will work to advance sustainable infrastructure projects and advocate for investments in transportation, energy, and building systems that promote environmental responsibility and long-term sustainability.  Role and Responsibilities:  Members of the Sustainability Advisory Council will serve as key thought leaders and decision-makers in shaping the Chamber's official stance on sustainability-related matters. They will engage in open and constructive discussions, leveraging their expertise and perspectives to drive consensus on policy recommendations. The council members will also be tasked with voting on the Chamber's official position concerning public issues that impact businesses and workers in our region.  Advocacy and Collaboration:  The Sustainability Advisory Council will actively engage with local and regional stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, educational institutions, and community groups. By building strong partnerships and alliances, the council will amplify its advocacy efforts, promote best practices, and collaborate on initiatives that support sustainable economic growth.  For more information about getting involved with the Sustainability Advisory Council, contact Sophia Hernandez. The Government & Legislative Affairs Advisory Council works with elected officials, community leaders, Chamber Members, topic experts, and other organizations to shape policies that help promote business creation, sustainability, and growth. Areas of focus include: Employment Business and Industry Retention Housing and Living Costs Environmental Regulations, and Workforce Development Advisory Council Members are responsible for discussing and deciding, by vote, the official position adopted by the Chamber regarding the different public issues that affect businesses and workers in San Diego. Topic: SDCWA Presentation on Water Transfers Speaker: Mike Lee, Director of Public Affairs Mike Lee joined the Water Authority in 2012 and has more than 25 years of professional experience in public relations and journalism. Prior to his appointment as director, he served as the senior manager of public affairs at the Water Authority, along with several other roles in the department. Lee has a bachelor’s degree in English from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash., and a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash. Before joining the Water Authority, he wrote extensively about natural resource issues across the West as a reporter for the Sacramento Bee, the San Diego Union-Tribune, and the Tri-City (Wash.) Herald. In 2002, he was awarded the Society of Professional Journalists’ highest annual honor for investigative reporting. The Water Authority’s Public Affairs Department is responsible for initiating and managing compelling public outreach and education programs that support Board policies and build trust with audiences; supporting Water Authority departments with professional services (including writing, graphic design, photography, and event planning); and partnering with member agencies and others to develop and deploy timely regional messaging.

Advisory Council Members are responsible for discussing and deciding, by vote, the official position and activities carried out by the Chamber regarding policies that affect the military community in San Diego. Our advocacy focus includes but is not limited to the following issues affecting active-duty service members, veterans, and their families in San Diego County: Housing Jobs Taxes Unethical practices that impact active-duty service members and veterans The Advisory Council also facilitates Operation Connect, a San Diego North Educational Foundation program, educating and connecting veterans to businesses within the Chamber and the community to assist their transition to civilian life.
